Kissimmee, FL- California Baptist University earns its consecutive national title at The 2012 NCCAA Men’s Soccer DI National Championship.
On CBU’s journey to the Championship Final their first match was against #7 seed Roberts Wesleyan College.CBU got the win
and shut-out with a score of 4-0. They then faced #3 seed Union University in the semi-final match and won 1-0. The championship
final was a great match up with CBU playing the #1 seed Fresno Pacific University.
The matchup between the #1 and #2 seed proved to be a very exciting and eventful one. In the 5th minute FPU’s Alvaro Nogales
finished a cross from Gustavo Silva. FPU led at half then added one more to the lead in the 57th minute with a breakaway goal
scored by Paul Islas. The CBU Lancers got on the score board in the 63rd minute with a goal from Alex Anderson assisted by a
through ball from Marc Hope. Paul Oliver then added another off a header assisted by Michael Salazar to tie the game at 2-2 in
the 82nd minute. Just as it looked like the game would go into overtime CBU’s Marc Hope found the back of the net in a last effort
cross from Alex Anderson with 7.8 seconds left in regulation. CBU prevailed in the championship final with a score of 3-2 over FPU.
This is the second consecutive year CBU’s men have won the NCCAA banner.
