Joel Hartman, a junior from Elkhart, Indiana, who set the mile record last year as a sophomore, has now broken it during the 2016 indoor season. This week Hartman bettered his mile record by finishing at the IWU Midwest Classic in 4:18.57, which is over four seconds quicker than his 2015 mark and good enough for the second best time in the NCCAA. He also eclipsed the NAIA “A” qualifying standard with that performance. In addition, as part of the 4 x 800m relay team now ranked No. 1 in NCCAA, Hartman reached another NAIA standard bringing his season total to three NAIA standards on the season.
