Katie Ostlund, sophomore from Oklahoma Christian University, opened the outdoor season with a dominating win the javelin at the Southwestern (Kan.) Invitational. Ostlund, who finished third in the NAIA in the event last season, uncorked a throw of 137 feet, 11 inches (42.04 meters), beating the second-place finisher in the 24-woman event by more than 13 1/2 feet. Her throw was the best in the NCCAA this season by 24 feet and qualified her for the NCCAA Outdoor Championships. Ostlund also competed in the hammer throw at Southwestern, finishing 16th among 28 competitors with a throw of 107 feet, 6 inches (32.78 meters).
