Sam Johnston, freshman from Oklahoma Christian University, earned medalist honors for the second time in his career in impressive fashion, besting a field consisting of mostly NCAA Division I golfers to win the Winchester Classic in Meadow Vista, Calif., by two shots. Johnston shot rounds of 71, 68 and 70 to finish 7-under-par in the tournament, which was played at Winchester Country Club (par 72, 7,144 yards) in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in northern California. The event included nine NCAA Division I teams -- including four ranked in the top 100, according to GolfStat -- along with OC and one NAIA school.
