Sam Johnston, Freshman from Oklahoma Christian University, tied The U.C. Ferguson Classic record by finishing at 16-under-par at Lincoln Park Golf Club's West Course (par 71) in Oklahoma City to earn medalist honors in only his second collegiate tournament. He set a school record for the lowest score in a competitive round with his first-round 63, which included a run of four straight birdies after he parred his opening hole. (The 63 was just two shots off the course record.) He followed that up with a second-round 69 and a final-round 65 for a two-shot win. Johnston had only four bogeys in his three rounds and led OC to a second-place team finish, beating the 2012 NAIA champion, Oklahoma City University, on its home course.
