Dick Damron has served Kentucky Christian University for over 34 years in various roles including Dean of Men, Campus Pastor, baseball and basketball coach, and Professor. He has served the NCCAA as both a Regional and National Basketball Chair. As a coach, Dick has ammassed over 400 wins, appeared in 13 NCCAA Championships, and has mentored current and former coaches with intercollegiate athletics. His teams captured four NCCAA National Championships in the 1990’s and he coached three Pete Maravich Award winners. Both he and his players garnered other regional and national awards ove the years by those awards pale when compare to the impact Coach Damron has had on the lives of the students with whome he has come in contact. Dick, a model for the acronym JOY (Jesus, other, and then YOU) has bnever beed motivated by induction into the NCCAA HAll of Fame; he simply believs in doing the right thing. His players can still hear him reminding them, “Remember who you are, and what your stand for.” Erhaps that is why they have reteurned en masse to be near him during his battle with cancer. While many folks understood that KCC stodd for Kentucky Christian College, Dick always knew it really meant Knights of Christian Character. That is what he developed, and today qivs and children are blessed because of the husbands and fathers that have been shaped by this man. Dr. Keith Keeran, President of Knetuck Christian University, sums up the staus of Coach Damron when he states, “Dick Damron is a champion in the eyes of all who know him. Right now he is in the greatest contest of his life. Whether he wins his struggle against cancer or receives the applause of heave, his future is secure. He is already in God’s Hall of Fame.”
