Dr. Martha E. (Marti) MacCullough is a native of Bristol, Virginia, but currently resides in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Bible from Philadelphia Biblical University, the Master of Arts in Christian Education from Wheaton College and earned her Doctorate of education from Temple University. Dr. MacCullough held both teaching and/or administrative posts for 10 years in Pennsylvania prior to serving for six years as a member of the faculty at Lancaster Bible College. She then began teaching at PBU in 1980, where she developed the Teacher Education program and served as Chair until 2002 when she was appointed Dean of the School of Education. For 18 years, five at LBC and 13 at PBU, Marti coached women’s basketball, accumulating over 300 wins and eight NCCAA Regional Championships. She coached in eight NCCAA National Championships and was selected NCAA National Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1993. She has served the NCCAA as National Division II Women’s Basketball Vice-Chair and Chair. Marti was a basketball player at PBU and her outstanding skills gained her entrance into the University’s Hall of Honor in 1983. Her two daughters, Sheryl and Debbie, both player for Coach MacCullough at PBU. But, more importantly, she taught not only the game of basketball, but also that God is not separate from athletic life. She told her teams that “God promised us life abundantly and basketball was part of that abundant life.” Her athletes praise her for her servant attitude, and, despite her already full schedule, she gave up her “spare” time to invest I their lives. She taught them to “strive toward excellence” and to do it “heartily as unto the Lord”.
