Hall of Fame
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Homer Drew earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in physical education and social studies from William Jewell College, Master of Arts degree in education at Washington University and his doctorate in educational administration from Andrews University. Drew began his head coaching career at Bethel College in 1976, compiling a record of 252-110 during his 11 seasons, and making the NAIA and NCCAA playoffs each year. Following a brief coaching position at Indiana University-South Bend, Drew was hired as head basketball coach at Valparaiso University in 1988, becoming the winningest coach in the school’s history. Many honors have been bestowed upon Drew, including NCCAA District Coach of the Year, Mid-Continent Conference Coach of the Year, coaching in the NCAA Tournament, MCC Conference and tournament titles, the Naismith Good Sportsmanship Award, and the Lumen Christi Medal. Further, he has now been inducted into four Halls of Fame. He has been honored and acknowledged for the outstanding behavior of his teams and for his community involvement. Drew retired from coaching following the 2002 season as one of the 19 Division I coaches to earn his 500th career victory. He now serves as Assistant to the President at Valparaiso University. Drew and his wife, Janet, have three grown children, Scott, Dana and Bryce, with whom they enjoy spending their free time.
