Mike Lightfoot was born in North Liberty, Indiana, on May 10, 1956. He went to Bethel College, graduating in 1978 with a B.S. in Physical Education (K-12) and History, and has an endorsement in Driver’s Education. He went on to receive his Masters from Indiana University at South Bend in 1981. Mike became the head basketball coach at Marian High School in Mishawaka, IN in 1980, he left there in 1987 to become the basketball coach at Bethel College. Mike led Bethel College to 6 National Championships, three in NCCAA Division I and three in NAIA Division II. He has been awarded Coach of the year sic times, found in the NCCAA Division I and twice in NAIA Division II. His overall record in 14 seasons is 425-102 and Mike has a distinction of having won both his 300th and 400th games in fewer season than any coach in the history of college basketball. Coach Lightfoot has led seven Mission Task Force teams to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Bahamas and Jamaica. He was featured in an article in the Sports Spectrum Magazine in March of 1999 and has the pleasure of seeing over 20 of his former players coaching in Indiana. But, the most impressive stat, is the number of players Coach Mike Lightfoot has led to the Lord.
