Ron Bishop, became the athletics director and men’s basketball coach at Tennessee Temple University, his alma mater, in 1975 and remained in that position for ten years. Bishop was responsible for putting Tennessee Temple basketball at the pinnacle of the NCCAA college basketball. He pastored the Bethel Baptist Church in Hartsville, Alabama for three years before returning to Tennessee Temple in 1975. In the years to follow, Bishop’s teams were able to win four National Christian College Athletic Association championships, including three straight titles in 1981, 1982, and 1983. The Crusaders also finished as runner-up in 1984 and 1985 tournaments. He was twice named NCCAA Basketball Coach of the Year. After leaving Tennessee Temple University, Bishop became the founder and president of SCORE International, a ministry devoted to evangelism outreach through the avenue of sports. Bishop’s development of the SCORE ministry, which has taken literally dozens of NCCAA coaches and athletes to minister throughout the world, has made a great contribution to the spiritual life and ministry of those involved in the NCCAA. He also is a presently involved as a college basketball television analyst for several major conferences.
