Bob White followed God’s calling to leave corporate America and begin coaching women’s volleyball at a small Christian High School in the late 1980’s. Only eternity will display what such obedience to our Lord has meant to the thousands of young people that have come under his athletic leadership since that time. His success at that high school was unparalleled as he took a team that had won not a single contest that year before and within ten years had five state titles and one NACA Championship to their credit. He then followed God’s call to the college ranks, turning down various offers in order to coach at Tennessee Temple University. He would lead the Crusaders to back to back NCCAA South region titles with over 30 wins. Moving on to Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2002, Bob’s first victory was moving the institution back into NCCAA membership. From that first winning effort, Bob led the Sailfish into the NCCAA semi-finals five years in a row and was named NCCAA Coach of the Year in 2004 after leading his squad to victory in the NCCAA National Championship. Bob’s heart for ministry through sport became apparent while coaching high school and club volleyball. He worked on various mission trips and eventually worked with SCORE as a mission trip coordinator and recruiter. “In Coach White, I saw what one person, sold out to Christ, could accomplish using sport as a tool for outreach,” states Dwayne Whiteheart, PBAU Women’s Soccer Coach. SCORE President Ron Bishop adds, “Bob’s relationship with Christ is intimate, his testimony above reproach, and his role in ministry well defined.” From his wife, Robin, his colleagues and peers, and his former student-athletes, Bob White is simply known as a man who walks in fellowship with the Lord. The NCCAA joins all those impacted by this man’s service in welcoming Mr. Bob White into the NCCAA Hall of Fame.
