HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Near freezing temperatures and the occasional snow flurry couldn’t thwart the spirit of more than 50 teams and 375 competitors taking part in the 2014 National Christian College Athletic Association Division I and II Cross Country National Championships at Houghton College on Saturday.
As the men’s race began the flurries started to increase, creating a winter wonderland over the 8K course. Tucker Hilley of Emmanuel (Ga.) and Bryant Keirns of Oklahoma Christian were unphased and dueled it out over the last 100 yards. Hilley grabbed the Division I title in the sprint finish, finishing in 25:05.8, with Keirns right behind in 25:06.9. Seth Eagleson rounded out the top-three with a run of 25:11.9.
Eagleson led three Lee runners in the top 12 to propel the Flames to the Division I title with 60 points. Oklahoma Christian was second with 83 points, Emmanuel (Ga.) (87 points) grabbed third, with Spring Arbor (121 points) turning in a fifth-place finish.
