Oklahoma Baptist University Wins Second Straight Women's Track & Field National Championship

Shawnee, OK:  Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) cruised to their second straight NCCAA Women’s Track & Field National Championship. The Lady Bison took first place in 10 of 22 events at the National Championship meet to earn 249.50 points. Roberts Wesleyan College finished in a distant second with 97 points, while Dallas Baptist University finished third with 80 points.

OBU took first in the 400m, 400m Hurdles, 5000m, 3000m Steeplechase, Heptathlon, Long Jump, Javelin, and the 4 x 100m, 4 x 400m, and 4 x 800m Relays. The Lady Bison finished second in the 200m, 800m, 100m Hurdles, High Jump, and Pole Vault.
 
The only NCCAA record broken at this year’ event was in the 400m. Kya Barnes of Oklahoma Baptist University finished in 54.52 to break the previous record of 54.66.
 
Chelsea Gilles of Greenville College was named the 2017 Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Wheeler Award Recipient. [Story]
