Biola University Repeats as DI Women’s Volleyball National Champions

Point Lookout, MO (12/1/18):  Biola University defeated the No. 3 seed, College of the Ozarks, 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 25-13) to win its second straight NCCAA DI Women’s Volleyball National Championship. Leading the Eagles was Christina DenBoer with 13 kills and 19 digs, along with Brinley Beresford who had 26 assists and 8 kills. Sabrina Winslow, Karly Dantuma, and Sierra Bauder all tallied over 10 kills in the match.
 
The Eagles cruised through pool play, finishing 3-0 without dropping a single set. On day one, Biola defeated No. 8 Piedmont International University 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-16) and No. 5 Southwestern Christian University 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-13). The Eagles were led in those matches by Sabrina Winslow who tallied 20 kills and 17 digs, along with Brinley Beresford who totaled 36 assists. In their final pool play match, Biola beat No. 4 Campbellsville University 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-16). Sabrina Winslow finished the match with 15 kills on a .444 hitting percentage, while Sami Hover had 17 digs. In a rematch from last year’s semifinal, the Eagles defeated No. 2 Southwestern Assemblies of God University 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-20) as Christina DenBoer tallied 9 kills and 15 digs to lead the way.
 
Alex Spears from College of the Ozarks was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player while Biola's Sierra Bauder was named National Player of the Year. Biola’s Aaron Seltzer was named Coach of the Year for the second straight year. The All-Tournament Team, All-Americans, Scholar-Athletes, and other awards are listed here.
