Zach Thompson Named 2019 DI Men's Basketball Pete Maravich Award Recipient


Greenville, SC:  The NCCAA is pleased to recognize Zach Thompson of Lincoln Christian University (LCU) as the 2019 Pete Maravich Award recipient for Division I Men’s Basketball.
 
11117Netting over 2,150 career points, 6’4” senior, Thompson, finished his career with an impressive average of 19.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He scored a season high 28 points against Trinity International University this year, but his career high 38 points came against Yellowstone Christian College in his freshman year. Throughout his career, Thompson has accumulated numerous accolades, including being honored as NCCAA First Team All-Regional (2016 & 2018), NCCAA Second Team All-Regional (2017), NAIA Second Team All-Conference (2017 & 2018), and NAIA First Team All-Conference this season.
 
The forward from Normal, Illinois has been a 3-year captain for the LCU Red Lions. He is a man of strong character and has a faith in Christ that goes beyond athletics. Thompson serves in youth ministries at local churches and has preached or led small groups at various LCU events. He has also served in various student government positions on campus. As a preaching ministry major, Thompson holds a 3.92 GPA and has been recognized as a Scholar-Athlete by both the NCCAA and NAIA.
 
“Zach’s skill set is impressive, and his leadership is vital,” stated Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Donny Aeilts. “His teammates and student peers look up to him, and the LCU faculty and staff think highly of him. He’s had a great career and we’re excited to see how his leadership ability translates to Kingdom work after graduation.”

Award Description
The purpose of the award is to recognize the outstanding NCCAA student-athlete in Division I Men's Basketball. It highlights excellence in competition, skill, academics, and Christian service during his career. This award is sponsored by Mr. Gary Beck, manager of the Gary Beck Foundation and a former NCCAA All-American student-athlete from Greenville University (IL).
