Bethel University Wins 2023 DI Men's Basketball National Championship 3/18/2023 6:40:50 PM Winona Lake, IN: Bethel University (BU) won its fifth (1992, 1993, 2000, 2007) NCCAA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship after defeating No. 3 seeded Clinton College 78-72. It was a back-and-forth battle from the tip that never had the Pilots up by more than 6. At the half, they led Clinton 34-30. The Pilots forced 15 turnovers which seemed to be the deciding factor in the matchup. Drew Lutz was a force for BU as he finished with a game-high 35 points along with 6 assists, while knocking down 10-of-11 free throws. Life Granville added 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Alonas Peciulis finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The No. 1 seeded Pilots picked up a 79-64 first round win over No. 8 Ecclesia College. BU’s Lutz was the leading scorer for the Pilots with 15 points, while teammates Peciulis (10 pts, 12 rebs) and Nathan Aerts (14 pts, 10 rebs) finished with double-doubles. The Pilots then secured a 74-63 semifinal win over No. 4 Geneva College. Brandon Hunt had a big game finishing with 17 points and 6 rebounds, while Peciulis once again recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds in the win.
