Anastasia Noonkesser Bob Jones University Wins Third DII Men's Soccer National Championship in Last Four Seasons 11/23/2024 12:00:00 AM Kissimmee, FL – The top seeded Bob Jones University Bruins cruised to their third Division II Men's Soccer National Championship in the last four years with a 5-1 victory over Boyce College. The Bruins wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring at the four minute mark and seeing five different players find the net in the win. According to NCCAA records, Bob Jones five goals is the most in a DII Men's Soccer National Championship game. #1 Bob Jones University 5, #2 Boyce College 1 Bob Jones University got off to their fastest start of the tournament, scoring at the four minute mark off a set piece. Matthias Baladi would put away a ball sent in from Mario Figueroa to quickly make it 1-0. In the 16th minute the Bruins offense continued to have their way with the Boyce back four, as Rylan Boldt scored on a nice crossing pass from David Issa. Boyce found a spark on their first offensive chance, as a miscommunication from the Bob Jones back line allowed Yonelson Alvarez to sneak behind the defense and find the net to cut the deficit to one in the 31st minute. Just over a minute later, Bob Jones responded as Eli Solomon found the five-hole on the Bulldog keeper to regain a two goal advantage. At the half, Bob Jones would hold a 3-1 edge. The Bruins outshot Boyce 12-5 in the first 45 minutes. The second half was all Bruins. Mario Figueroa scored in the 54th minute unassisted to increase the edge to 4-1. Anthony Ruiz added one more in the 57th minute as Bob Jones University would score the most goals in any of their four DII NCCAA National Championship performances. Bob Jones would hold possession for the final half hour to hold off any chance of a Boyce comeback. The Bruins would earn their third National Championship in the last four seasons, 5-1. Mario Figueroa of Bob Jones University was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player, while Ben Sowers of Boyce College earned the Select Golden Ball Award with five goals.
