Grace College Earns Second Straight DI Women's Volleyball National Championship 12/7/2024 3:17:38 PM Point Lookout, M.O. – For the second year in a row, #2 Grace College claims the NCCAA DI Women’s Volleyball National Championship, defeating #3 Jessup University 3-1 on Saturday, December 7. #2 Grace College 3, #3 Jessup University 1 Set one was a seesaw battle between the two teams, as neither side could pull away, and the set was tied 17-17. Grace went on a run, thanks to kills from McKenzie Stakely, Alisha Voss, and a big block by Voss and Sahara Bee forced a Jessup timeout with the Lancers on top 20-17. The Warriors responded with a run of their own, as kills from Kenzie Carpenter and Madalyn Miller tied the contest at 22-22. Grace took control to end the opening frame, as kills from Voss, Livia Tate, and Bee gave the Lancers the 25-22 win and the 1-0 advantage. Set two was all Grace College, as a trio of Jessup errors put the Lancers ahead 4-1. Three more errors from the Warriors swelled the Grace lead to 15-8. An ace and a kill from Carpenter cut the Grace lead to 16-11, but a block from Tate and Leah Henderson and a kill from Henderson put the Lancers ahead 21-12. Kills from Julia Olson and Megan Conway brought Jessup within four, but a kill by Jadyn Ross and a block from Bee gave Grace the 25-18 set win and the 2-0 lead. Jessup took control in set three, as kills from Taylor MacCuish and Olson put the Warriors on top 11-2. The Warriors continued to roll, thanks to kills from Sheridan and a pair of Grace errors to go ahead 17-7. A block from Henderson and Tate cut the lead to single digits, and a pair of Jessup attack errors put Grace down just 21-15. A service error by the Lancers put Jessup at set point, and a kill from Miller clinched set three for the Warriors 25-19, and kept Jessup alive down 2-1. Set Four was a block party for Grace College, as the Lancers went up 6-0 thanks to blocks from Bee, Voss and Anna Ballengee, and kills from Voss and Bee. Kills from Ross and two more blocks from Ballengee and Bee put the Lancers on top 16-8, and a kill from Leah Henderson gave match point to Grace College up 24-13. Ross finished off the match with a kill off an assist by Olivia Martinez, and Grace College took set four 25-13 and their second straight national championship with a 3-1 victory. Grace College had 16 blocks compared to just two for Jessup. Ballengee led the Lancers with 11 kills, adding in five digs, one solo block, and one block assist. Bee had seven block assists and one solo block, along with seven kills, while Voss had eight block assists, one solo block, and six kills. Morgan Syoen had 21 assists and four digs in the contest, while Liz Schmidt had 19 digs. Alisha Voss of Grace College was named the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
