Baseball set to begin DII Invitational Spring of 2025

Greenville, SC – The NCCAA is excited to announce the addition of a Division II Baseball National Invitational that is set to begin in the spring of 2025. After meeting the required participation and receiving approval from the NCCAA Administration Committee, Division II Baseball programs will now begin invitational competition with dates and locations still yet to be determined.

An NCCAA invitational sport is recognized by the NCCAA in which 15% or more of active member institutions declare intent to sponsor a varsity intercollegiate sport (as defined by NCCAA Bylaws). Said sport then must establish a coaches’ association and submit a request for approval from the NCCAA Administration Committee. With 13 Division II programs sponsoring baseball in 2023-24, and the potential for more in 2024-25, the sport has been approved for invitational status, giving the NCCAA a Division II Baseball event for the first time since 2013.

“The initiating of a new invitational event that could possibly create a championship is always exciting,” said NCCAA Executive Director, Dan Wood. “We look forward to the successful renewal of NCCAA Division II Baseball via this invitational effort.”

A sport shall remain an invitational sport until at least two invitationals have occurred, the number of institutions declaring grows to 33%, and Administration Committee approval of championship sport status is received.
