Kissimmee, FL – The top seeds rolled on day one of the NCCAA DII Women’s Soccer National Championship, as Bob Jones University and Southwestern Adventist University picked up a pair of shutout wins on Monday, November 17.
Pool A - #1 Bob Jones University 4, #5 Grace Christian University 0
The defending national champions #1 Bob Jones University opened their title defense run in style, knocking off #5 Grace Christian University 3-0 in their first game of pool play.
- Bob Jones peppered the box with shots early but could not score in the first 15 minutes of the match, as Grace Davis made a fingertip save for GCU to keep the match scoreless.
- BJU finally opened the scoring in the 21st minute, as Francesca Aurednik found some open grass in front of the goal to put the Bruins on top 1-0.
- In her 19th appearance of the season, Lydia Howell added her first goal of her collegiate career on a strike just outside the box in the 25th minute, pushing Bob Jones ahead 2-0.
- The Bruins continued the attack in the second half, as Aurednik used a pair of nifty moves in the box to pick up her second goal of the game, sending the ball through the legs of Davis in the 59th minute off an assist from Shannon Miller to push the BJU lead to 3-0.
- Howell added an assist to her career day, finding Elli Cummings inside the box in the 84th minute to give Bob Jones the 4-0 win.
- Bob Jones outshot Grace Christian 35-0 with 18 shots on goal, holding the Tigers to just a pair of attack chances in the match. Davis picked up 14 saves in the loss for GCU.
Pool B - #2 Southwestern Adventist University 3, #6 Crown College 0
A pair of early goals from Lesly Cardona helped #2 Southwestern Adventist University pick up an opening day 3-0 win over #6 Crown College to begin play at the 2025 NCCAA DII Women’s Soccer National Championship.
- Cardona started the scoring in the 13th minute, finding a crossing pass from Yaneily Gonzalez to put SWAU ahead 1-0.
- Cardona connected again just five minutes later, this time from a pass by Julianna Crespo to swell the Knights lead to 2-0.
- Julie Baur had a chance to add to the Southwestern Adventist advantage with a penalty kick in the 35th minute, but just missed and the score stayed 2-0 in favor of the Knights.
- SWAU added a third goal early in the second half, as Skye Figuero tallied her first of the week off an assist from Shayla Poleon in the 57th minute.
- The Knights laced the Polars with shot chances, outshooting Crown 24-1 and 14-0 in shots on goal. Crown’s Rachel Fuller recorded 11 saves in the loss.
Pool Play at the 2025 NCCAA DII Women’s Soccer National Championship continues tomorrow, November 18 at 1:00 PM. Trinity College of Jacksonville faces off against Grace Christian University in Pool A, while Great Lakes Christian College will play Crown College in Pool B.
