Cedarville University on top After Opening Day of NCCAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Championships 2/7/2025 8:22:33 PM Cedarville, OHIO – Eying their seventh straight NCCAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Championship, Cedarville University sits in first place after day one of the 2025 NCCAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Championship. The Yellow Jackets compiled 41.33 total points, thanks to event wins in the Pentathlon and the 4x200 meter relay, a second-place finish in the pole vault, and a third-place finish in the 5000-meter run. Bethel University currently holds the second-place spot with 31.33 points, while Malone University is in third place with 28 points. Track Highlights: Makiyah Allen of Campbellsville University led the way in the 60-meter hurdle prelims, winning her heat and advancing to the finals with a time of 8.80 seconds, the fastest time in the event by 0.41 seconds. Greenville University was the only school with multiple teams to make the women’s 60-meter hurdle final, as TyKiaza Jones had the second-fastest time overall at 9.21 seconds, while Kenzie Kurdys had the fastest time of heat two and the seventh-fastest overall with a time of 9.60 seconds. Summer Swartwout and Nora Hagan from Cedarville University took the top two spots in the prelims of the 60-meter dash, as Swartwout finished first with a time of 7.62 seconds, while Hagan finished second with a time of 7.87 seconds. Jessup University had a pair of athletes make the finals, as Erica Waseq finished sixth overall at 7.95 seconds, while Paloma Baumert won her heat and finished seventh overall at 7.96 seconds. Nicanta Smith of Bethel University took the final spot in the 60-meter finals by 0.01 seconds. Crown College’s Distance Medley Relay team of Ruth Brueckner, Mia Arroyo, Ella Dufault, and Lindsey Morrison took home gold, winning the race with a time of 12:40.98, beating out Malone University by just under nine seconds. Christy Shank from Campbellsville won the championship in the 5000-meter run by almost 11 seconds, beating out Carmen Medvit of Geneva College with a time of 17:48.48. Medvit just edged out Sydney Yoder of Cedarville, who finished third with a time of 17:59.58 as the Golden Tornado runner took home the silver medal with a time of 17:59.36. Cedarville closed out the night with a near record-breaking performance in the 4x200 meter relay, as the team of Summer Swartwout, Mallory Gasper, Hope Carroll, and Nora Hagan just missed an NCCAA record by just over four seconds and a facility record by less than two seconds, winning the event with a time of 1:44.49. Field Highlights: Lexi Tucci of Malone University opened the scoring for the women, as she was the only athlete to clear 1.57 and 1.62 meters in the women’s high jump, a new personal best and the freshman’s first career event championship as a Pioneer. Kenniqua Grate of Campbellsville University and Anna Beth Vancil of Greenville University finished tied for second in the event, clearing 1.52 meters on their first attempt. In the pole vault, Sophia Sumer of Bethel University won the event championship, as she was the only athlete to clear 3.57 meters. There was a three-way tie for second place, as Grace Conway from Bethel, Sophia Schneider of Cedarville University, and Paloma Baumert of Jessup University all tied after clearing 3.42 meters on their final jumps. Pentathlon Highlights: Caroline Schaeckenbach of Cedarville University won the gold medal in the Women’s Indoor Pentathlon, scoring 3,011 points. She just beat out Jocelyn Pedretti of Jessup University who scored 2,939 points, while Abby Schopper of York University finished third with 2,218 points. Schaeckenbach took first place in the 60m Hurdles by a whopping .28 seconds, winning the event and scoring 800 points with a time of 9.54 seconds. Pedretti from finished on top in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters to earn 566 points for the Warriors. Pedretti followed up with a dominant performance in the shot put, as her throw of 10.82 meters gave her another first-place finish, winning the event by 1.58 meters and collecting 583 more points. Schaekenbach took home her second event win, edging out Padretti with a jump of 4.90 meters to 4.88 meters in the long jump to take first and win 532 points, and the two were separated by just 108 points heading into the final event of the Pentathlon. Schaekenbach left no doubt in the final event of the day, the 800-meter run, as her time of 2:29.65 won her the race by almost 16 seconds and gave her 697 more points and the Pentathlon championship. The 2025 NCCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships conclude on Saturday, February 8. The first event is scheduled to begin at 9:00am ET, with the final event set to begin at 4:10pm ET.
