Ohio Christian University and University of Northwestern Close Time in Missouri with Victories

Point Lookout, MO – Consolation bracket play wrapped up at the 2025 NCCAA DI Women’s Basketball National Championship, with #8 Ohio Christian University winning the seventh-place game over #3 Clinton College, while #7 University of Northwestern took home fifth place with a win over #4 Houghton University.
 
7th Place Game: #8 Ohio Christian University 73, #3 Clinton College 62
 
Ashley DeWeese, Emma Koons, and Lily Shepherd combined for 60 points for #8 Ohio Christian University, as the Trailblazers knocked off #3 Clinton College 73-62 to win the seventh-place game at the 2025 NCCAA DI Women’s Basketball National Championship.
  • It was the Emma Koons show early for Ohio Christian, as she nailed three straight shots from distance to put the Trailblazers ahead 12-6 halfway through the first quarter. Kourtney English found Diamond Moore-Heath on a pretty pass in the lane to get Clinton going, and a jumper from Jala Hutchins answered a layup from Koons on the other end to close out the period, with Ohio Christian holding an 18-14 lead after one.
  • Lily Shepherd took over for the Blazers in the second, hitting a pair of layups to put OCU up 22-14 just 1:12 into the frame. Both defenses would lock down each pther until the end of the quarter, when Ashley DeWeese hit a jumper and then a three-ball to push the Ohio Christian lead to double digits, before Moore-Heath completed an and-one opportunity to cut the Trailblazer lead to 33-24 at halftime.
  • Koons and DeWeese came out firing in the second half, nailing a pair of triples before Shepherd added another jumper to put OCU ahead double digits again. Clinton answered with a 10-4 run, thanks to jumpers from Kourtney English and Alesha Canady to trim the deficit to 48-44, but a three-ball from JoLeigh Hamilton squelched the rally. Shabrica Leslie became a one-woman wrecking crew for the Golden Bears at the end of the period, scoring a pair of shots and Clinton trailed just 57-50 going to the fourth.
  • Both sides traded buckets in the final frame, before a triple from Tameah Gaddis cut the lead down to 67-58 halfway through the fourth. A strong take from DeWeese put the Trailblazers back up double digits. A jumper from English got the Golden Bears within nine, but the Blazers connected on four straight foul shots to hold Clinton at bay and earn the 73-62 win and a seventh-place finish. 
  • Koons led the way for OCU with 26 points and hauled down 11 boards. Shepherd finished with 20 points and nine rebounds, along with four assists, while DeWeese scored 14 points and recorded eight rebounds.
 
5th Place Game: #7 University of Northwestern 76, #4 Houghton University 52
 
Seventh seeded University of Northwestern held #4 Houghton University to under 30 percent from the floor, as the Eagles rolled to a fifth-place finish at the 2025 NCCAA DI Women's Basketball National Championship with a 76-52 win.
  • Northwestern opened up screeching hot from the field, going on a 10-0 run thanks to shots from Jasmine Sondrol, Reese Sellars, and Lexi Hagen. A shot at the horn went in for Emma Cole of Houghton, but UNW took a 16-7 lead after the opening stanza.
  • A pair of threes from Hagen and Ella Falk continued to swell the UNW lead in the second quarter, but a layup from Tricia Carmer and a three-ball from Natalie Rivera kept Houghton within striking distance. Allison Terry connected on a tough layup at the end of the second period, pushing the Northwestern advantage to 32-19 at the break.
  • The hot shooting continued for the Eagles in the third period, with Landvik and Sondrol making tough shots, and Falk found Taylor Christenson inside with a nice pass to put UNW ahead 42-24 halfway through the frame. Crysta Lacrosse added a triple for Houghton, but Landvik answered with one of her own and Lexi Garcia added a tough layup, and Northwestern took control with a 55-33 lead going into the fourth.
  • UNW closed out the game in style, as Ryann Eddy and Allison Terry drained a pair of threes to open the fourth quarter. A shot from Sondrol put the Eagles ahead by thirty, and a corner three from Caroline West ended the contest, as Northwestern closed out the ballgame, knocking off the Highlanders 76-52.
  • Landvik was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 13 points and hauling down nine rebounds. Sondrol stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal.
 
The 2025 NCCAA DI Women’s Basketball National Championship concludes tomorrow, March 22, with the third-place game and national championship game. The third-place game tips off at 10:00 A.M. CT between Asbury University and Oakland City University, and the national championship game between College of the Ozarks and Mission University tips off at 2:00 P.M. CT.
