THE HISTORY The NCCAA has held the Division I Men's Basketball National Championship every year since 1968, except for 2020 due to COVID. Tennessee Temple University, who merged with Piedmont International University in 2015 to become Carolina University, and Bethel University have won the most NCCAA DI Men's Basketball National Championships with five. Five different schools (Nelson American Indian College, 2025, Cedarville University, 2024, Bethel University, 2023, Baptist Bible College, now known as Mission University, 2022, and University of Northwestern, 2021), have won the championship in the last five years. The last school to repeat as DI Men's Basketball National Champions was Spring Arbor University in 2005 and 2006. LAST YEAR Nelson American Indian College won their first ever Division I Men's Basketball National Championship, winning three straight games in come-from-behind fashion to bring home the blue banner. The Warriors defeated host College of the Ozarks in the first round in overtime, thanks to a game-winning layup by Zaveion Bineyard with two seconds left in the extra frame. In the semifinals, Nelson AIC trailed Ohio Christian University 43-31 at halftime, but scored 64 second half points, led by 30 from Harley Upton, to stun the Trailblazers 95-92. In the National Championship game, the Warriors found themselves tied with top seeded Columbia International University at the break, but 41 combined points from Rob Jenkins and Upton pushed Nelson AIC to the 89-74 win and the national championship.
