Division II Baseball Set to Return to Championship Status in 2026-27 4/14/2026 9:37:57 AM Greenville, SC – After approval from the Administration Committee of the Board of Directors, the NCCAA is excited to announce that Division II Baseball will return to championship status starting in 2026-27. After two successful invitationals hosted by Arlington Baptist University, Division II Baseball has met the requirements to return to a championship sport for the first time since 2012-13. The sport will become the NCCAA’s 24th sanctioned National Championship event with official championship dates and host site still to be announced. “After a successful invitational hosting process at Arlington Baptist University, we are ready to see Division II Baseball return as our 24th championship sport in the NCCAA starting in 2026-27,” stated NCCAA Executive Director Dan Wood. “We are appreciative of sport leadership who have helped provide support in this event, and we are encouraged to provide more opportunities for NCCAA student-athletes to compete for a National Championship while also chasing the King.” To earn approval for National Championship status under the current NCCAA handbook guidelines, a sport must eclipse the requirement of 33% of NCCAA Division II schools sanctioning the sport. Division II Baseball has seen a growth in programs to exceed the required 33% necessary for approval. Holding a Division II Baseball World Series will now separate the Division I programs and Division II programs giving each the opportunity to compete for an NCCAA National Championship in May. Per the requirements, Division II Baseball will be a four-team World Series event with specific dates, times, and championship location still yet to be determined. In the NCCAA’s history, Division II Baseball has seen three different National Champions in seven years of World Series play. Toccoa Falls College holds the most titles with four, earning the last championship held in 2013. Since the sport returned to invitational status in 2025, Arlington Baptist University has won both NCCAA Division II Baseball Invitationals as the host institution. More information on championship dates, qualifiers, and host sites will be released at a later date at thenccaa.org.
