Game 18 – National Championship: #6 Southwestern Christian University - 5, #4 Judson University - 3
  • Both Judson University and Southwestern Christian University would go back to their NCCAA Baseball World Series opening day starter and ace on their pitching staff for the championship game. Mozart Duarte would strike out a pair for Southwestern Christian while giving up two hits in the top of the first inning. Judson’s Owen Wanner would have less success in the bottom of the first allowing two hits in a walk to load the bases before recording an out.
  • Dominic Ornelas would be the beneficiary of the Southwestern Christian hot start, recording a two RBI single to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Southwestern Christian continued to pour it on, batting around in the bottom of the first inning. Phoenix Nelson and Braden Browning each added RBI singles as the Eagles recorded six hits and scored five runs to lead 5-0.
  • Judson’s nine-hole hitter Carson Hubert helped the Eagles find a response in the top of the second inning. He would hit a two RBI double that just got under Pheonix Nelson’s glove in left to cut the deficit to three at 5-2.
  • Owen Wanner returned for Judson to pitch the bottom of the inning and had much more success holding Southwestern Christian scoreless. Headed into the third inning Southwestern Christian led 5-2.
  • Pitching and defense started to take shape in the middle innings. The defense was highlighted by a line drive catch from Southwestern Christian’s Dario Paredes at third to help the Eagles get a 1-2-3 top of the fourth inning.
  • Judson’s Owen Wanner lost a little of his command in the bottom of the fifth inning, walking and hitting the first two batters he faced. Wanner would find a way out of it though, striking out a pair to strand three Southwestern Christian runners and keep the deficit at 5-2.
  • Mozart Duarte would also face some trouble on the mound in the top of the sixth inning for Southwestern Christian. After runners got to second and third, he induced a ground ball to end the inning and keep the Eagle lead at three.
  • Judson would score the first run since the second inning in the top of the seventh inning after pinch runner Yasiel Trinidad came home on a groundout. Trinidad advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third to get in scoring position. Mozart Duarte would limit any further damage on the mound, as Southwestern Christian continued to lead, 5-3.
  • Southwestern Christian’s Mozart Duarte would get stronger after the Judson run scored in the top of the seventh. Duarte allowed just one hit in the final two innings to secure a 5-3 victory for the Eagles and a complete game victory. Southwestern Christian earned their second NCCAA Baseball World Series National Championship in the last three years with the win.
