Adam Kregel Named 2020 DII Men's Basketball Pete Maravich Award Recipient

Greenville, SC:  The NCCAA is pleased to recognize Adam Kregel of Grace Christian University (GCU) as the 2020 Pete Maravich Memorial Award recipient for Division II Men’s Basketball.
 
17823Three-year team captain Adam Kregel has led the Tigers with an average of 8.6 points per game and over 1,000 career points during his time at GCU. This season he is averaging 13.2 points per game and has hit 94 three-point shots, 12 shy of a school season record. Able to guard the post or perimeter, Kregel is a versatile defender and an impressive defensive rebounder with over 400 career defensive rebounds. The senior small forward has led his team to 4 NCCAA National Championship appearances, earning NCCAA All-Tournament Team honors in 2018 and claiming the NCCAA National Championship in 2019.
 
Aside from basketball Kregel leads his team consistently in Christian service projects, recording over 200 hours each year of local service, far surpassing the required 12 hours per year. Known for his Christian character, he is often asked by local coaches to speak to their teams. Kregel majors in business management and holds a 4.0 GPA. He has been honored for his academic excellence as a 2-time NCCAA Scholar-Athlete and GCU President’s List recipient.

Award Description
The purpose of this award is to recognize the outstanding NCCAA student-athlete in Men’s Basketball and highlights excellence in competition, skill, academics, and Christian service during his career. “Pistol Pete” Maravich was known for his ball handling, shooting abilities, and creative passing. He was an NBA All-Star, named one of NBA’s 50 greatest players, and inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987. He came to know Christ later in his life and spent the last years of his life pointing people to Christ.
