This year’s Game Plan 4 LIFE Female Student-Athlete Character Award recipient is Sacia Hanson from Grace College (GC). A captain since her junior year, Sacia Hanson, is passionate about Jesus and playing soccer at the top of her game. Leading Grace to five national tournament appearances in four years (three NAIA, two NCCAA), the senior has recorded six career goals and seventeen career assists. In 2018, Hanson assisted the game-winning goal to beat No. 11 Marian University in overtime, to help the Lancers secure the program’s first conference championship. She has been honored as a three-time member of the All-Crossroads League Team, four-time member of the NCCAA Midwest All-Regional Team, and an NCCAA Second Team All-American. The native of Boulder, Colorado will graduate with a degree in elementary education with a focus in special education holding a 3.23 GPA. She has participated in various mission trips across the globe during her time at Grace, including Ohio, Costa Rica, Vietnam, and Thailand. Hanson has also volunteered at NAIA Soccer clinics in Alabama, and at Night to Shine escorting special needs high school students to prom. Her testimony on campus, in athletics, and in the education department, is a lifestyle that honors God and draws others to Him. Hanson was the recipient of the 2021 NCCAA DI Women's Soccer GP4L Character Award. “Sacia is a fierce competitor and unwavering in her love for Jesus,” stated head coach Michael Voss. “She has been a passionate leader pointing her teammates to grow in faith and fútbol. We’re blessed to have had her here at Grace!” [Back to top] This year’s Game Plan 4 LIFE Male Student-Athlete Character Award recipient is Coby Jones from Johnson University Tennessee (JUTN). Two-year team captain Coby Jones is known to be a physically and versatile player on the court. This season Jones averaged a remarkable 20.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per-game. He is a two-time NCCAA Division II First Team All-American and finished his career with over 2,000 points as Johnson University’s third all-time leading scorer. The 6’2” guard has led his team to a Mideast Regional Championship in 2018, and three consecutive National Championship appearances, winning the title in 2021. The senior will graduate Summa Cum Laude with a degree in sport and fitness leadership. He has been a Dean’s List honoree every semester, is a president’s scholarship recipient, and an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete. Jones’ leadership spans beyond the basketball court as he often leads Bible studies and hosts dinners for his teammates. He volunteers with Emerald Youth Foundation in Knoxville and has used his theological and ministry training provided him at JUTN to preach at churches in his hometown. Often times, he has prepared sermons during a busy basketball season, so he can go home to preach on Sundays, his one day off. Jones was the recipient of the 2021 NCCAA DII Pete Maravich Character Award. “Coby has been an excellent ambassador for Christ, Johnson University, and the NCCAA during his collegiate career,” stated Head Coach Brandon Perry. “He has consistently been one of the best NCCAA DII men’s basketball players while finding the time to volunteer at local nonprofits, achieve academic success, and prepare himself for his future.” [Back to top] This year’s Game Plan 4 LIFE Female Athletic Staff Character Award recipient is Alicia du’Monceaux from the University of Northwestern (UNW). With over a decade of involvement at Northwestern, Alicia is in her thirteenth year serving as Head Softball coach for the Eagles. She is a competitive, hard-working, and disciplined coach. This season Alicia became the all-time winningest softball coach in school history with 242 wins, recording six 20+ win seasons under her guidance. In 2018 and 2019 she led her team to back-to-back conference tournament titles thus earning two NCAA tournament appearances. In 2011 her squad was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) top academic team for all of the NCAA’s three divisions. Alicia is known to never compromise in order to gain an advantage, and teaches her team that God expects us to do what is right, not just what is okay. “Coach Alicia epitomizes the essence of this award through her love for her Savior, her players, and the general student body,” stated University of Northwestern President Dr. Alan Cureton. “It is a delight to watch her interactions with her student-athletes, but it is also special to witness the respect and admiration her fellow coaches show her when they compete against one another.” While Alica’s accomplishments as a coach are numerous, her commitment to service outside of the athletic sphere is a true demonstration to her faith in Jesus. She leads the coaching staff at Northwestern in the number of regularly scheduled community outreach opportunities for her team, serving with local nursing homes, churches, and community groups. Furthermore, she has traveled to Haiti numerous times, leading teams to serve the people of Haiti in orphanages, churches, and local ministries. Beth Wilmeth, Assistant Director of Athletics, stated, “Coach Alicia is a woman marked by Christ’s work on the cross. She daily submits to His leading, and this spills over into every aspect of her life. Her primary goal as a coach is to see her players grow in their love for Jesus.” [Back to top] This year’s Game Plan 4 LIFE Male Athletic Staff Character Award recipient is Brian Fincham from Faith Baptist Bible College (FBBC). Brian serves as Athletic Director and Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Faith Baptist Bible College and has served in other various roles within the athletic department since 2001. Brian is a four-time NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year and in 2019-2020 earned the honor of NCCAA Division II Men’s Basketball National Coach of the Year. His focus as a coach has been having a team that is first a glorifying example of God and then a team that is disciplined on and off the court. He strives to keep the Gospel and faith at the forefront of all he does. “For Coach Fincham, his standard of excellence is based on 1 Corinthians 10:31, that in all things we do, say, or think is to give glory to God,” stated former FBBC player, Jason Conable. “Coach pushes his players to understand that on the court we have the constant opportunity to show each other, the refs, other players, and spectators a better view of God through our actions and words.” Brian has served in various leadership roles within the NCCAA throughout the years such as, North Regional Chair, NCCAA National Advisory Committee member, and NCCAA Eligibility Committee member. He similarly has a heart for ministry and serves as the College Ministry Leader at Community Baptist Church. Director of School Outreach at Faith and former player Noah Kephart stated, “Coach Fincham’s life and coaching philosophy were the deciding factors for me when it came to pursuing coaching.
