Thatcher Wilson Named 2024 Dan & Kelly Wood Award Recipient 10/20/2024 12:00:00 AM Greenville, SC – The National Christian College Athletic Association is pleased to announce Thatcher Wilson of Ohio Christian University (OCU) as the 2024 Dan & Kelly Wood Award Recipient for Men’s Golf. Wilson, a graduate student from Grove City, Ohio, has spent his whole life trying to grow closer to God. Wilson grew up in a Christian home and was baptized when he was seven years old. As a member of Grove City Church of the Nazarene, Wilson has always tried to point others to Christ on and off the course. As a golfer, Wilson has had a trio of top five finishes in his career, including a second-place finish at the Pickaway Country Club event in October 2023, shooting a two-under par two-round score on his way to a second-place finish at the event. A team captain his junior and senior year, Wilson has earned three All-Tournament Team honors throughout his career, and has also been honored at the national level, earning a pair of NAIA Character Awards. Away from the clubhouse, Wilson currently holds a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in Criminal Justice, having been named to the Dean’s List several times as a student at OCU. Wilson is also a graduate assistant coach for the Trailblazer golf team and spends his time off the links serving in his church and helping with community service days. Head Men’s Golf Coach Mark Taylor said “Thatcher has provided a calming presence for our golf team throughout the years. His leadership for our team is evident through the voting of the team captain that he earned as a junior and senior. He speaks to the development of the team and is always a well-spoken leader during our weekly team Bible studies.” Other Finalist Gordon Skaar, University of Northwestern Award Description Dan and Kelly Wood's commitment to the NCCAA is evident in the growth of the Golf National Championships with venue upgrades, the addition of women's golf, and an enhanced format. While at two NCCAA member institutions, Dan served as NCCAA Men's Golf Chair from 1993-1999. He assumed the role of Executive Director in 2000 and developed the Game Plan 4 LIFE character initiative while also expanding Christian Service Projects and sports ministry funding. Kelly worked for the NCCAA for over 30 years. Her heart for the Lord and to reach others for Christ helped grow the NCCAA's Kingdom impact.
