Wayland Baptist University Rolls to Second Straight NCCAA Men’s Golf National Championship

Palm Coast, FL – For the second year in a row, Wayland Baptist University (WBU) hoisted the NCCAA Men’s Golf National Championship banner, rolling over the competition at the Hammock Beach Resort Conservatory Course on Wednesday, October 23.
 
The Pioneers finished the tournament shooting a nine-over 873, (299, 282, 292, through three rounds, finishing 22 strokes ahead of second place Bethel University. WBU was firing on all cylinders this week, as four of the top six individuals represented the blue and gold. 
 
Benjamin Lubker won medalist honors, finishing at one-under with a 215 three-round score (69, 71, 75).  His teammate, Nino Mahy, finished three strokes behind him, along with Andrew Haarlow of Columbia International University to finish tied for second place. Haarlow shot 77, 70 and 71 in his three rounds of play, while Mahny carded 78, 69, and 71. 
 
Highlights:
  • Shane Seiffert from the University of Northwestern was the top individual finisher, carding a 233 three-round score (77, 78, 78). Seiffert finished tied for 22nd with Jerah Venkaiya of Jessup University (81, 74, 78), and Will Robinson of Columbia International (79, 77, 77)
  • Michael Sorber from Jessup finished tied for ninth, clinching All-American honors for the Warriors at their first-ever NCCAA Men’s Golf National Championships.
  • Both Wayland and Bethel did well on par fives, shooting a four-under, 4.93 average score as a team, Columbia International averaged an even-par 5.00 on the longest holes at the Conservatory Course.
  • Wayland Baptist led the field with 47 birdies, while also recording two eagles. Both came from Sacha Brendle on the par five tenth hole and the par four 15th hole in the third round.
  • Haarlow led all individuals with 15 birdies, including three in a row on the 15th, 16th and 17th holes in the final round.
