PC: Robbie Gawrys Trinity Christian College Earns Program's Third DI Women's Soccer National Championship 12/6/2024 12:00:00 AM Kissimmee, FL – Trinity Christian College earns their third NCCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Championship, first since 2018, in the final match under 23-year veteran head coach Josh Lenarz. Litzy Corona scored the crucial game winning goal in the 25th minute which was followed by a pair of second half insurance goals to give the Trolls the 3-0 victory over Judson University. The win is Trinity Christian's first over Judson in their third meeting of the year between the North Central Region and Chicago, Illinois rivals. #1 Judson University 0, #3 Trinity Christian College 3 In their third meeting of the season, the two North Central Region opponents saw the match start similarly to the previous two with both sides relying on strong defense. Trinity Christian College saw the best chance in the first 15 minutes with Litzy Corona tallying a shot that was saved and Jade Maldonado missing the rebound attempt high. Trinity Christian later capitalized on one of their early chances as Litzy Corona scored her third goal of the tournament, once again with the left foot, on a rebound off a shot from substitute Nerea Genc in the 25th minute. At the half, Trinity Christian maintained the 1-0 advantage. Both sides saw five shots in the first 45 minutes, but Judson only saw one on goal while the Trolls saw four. The second half began with Judson earning the first corner of the game in the 49th minute. Daisy Garcia was able to get her head to it, but she would miss wide right as the score stayed 1-0. Judson continued to control possession for the first 15 minutes of the second half earning a pair of threatening free kick chances. The Trolls defense continued to hold though to keep the shutout. In the 58th minute Trinity Christian was able to counter. Emily Soriaga found the net off a double assist from Grace Wieneke and Nerea Genc to give the Trolls an insurance goal. Just three minutes later, the Trolls would add a third off another goal that came from a rebound. Nerea Genc scored her first goal of the tournament after assisting on the first two of the championship match to give Trinity Christian a 3-0 advantage. The Trolls will make some substitutions in the final 20 minutes to load up the defensive end. Trinity Christian would hold Judson for the remainder of the contest to secure the 3-0 shutout and the 2024 DI NCCAA Women's Soccer National Championship. Litzy Corona was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player as well as the Select Golden Ball Award winner with three goals scored.
