The Lancers slowed down a Bruins team that won their way to the title game with fast starts, holding CU to just three points in the first six and a half minutes of game action. Despite Carolina starting to find their rythym later in the first quarter, early three-pointers from Maddie Ryman and Morganne Howk helped GC to a 17-11 advantage after one. Grace's defensive pressure and ability to turn Carolina over would be the key in the first half. The Lancers tallied eight steals and forced 19 turnovers to balloon their lead to 21 at halftime. Carolina would work to chip away at the deficit for much of the second half, but it was too-little-too-late for the Bruins as they could never cut it below nine. Maddie Ryman would lead GC with 20 points while Peyton Murphy added a near double-double with nine points and eight rebounds. Morganne Howk scored an additional 12 points to help Grace to the victory. The No. 4 seed Lancers played a pair of tight games to get to the National Championship. They opened play with a 79-73 victory over No. 5 Southwestern Christian University behind 20 points and seven rebounds from Maddie Ryman. Grace led for all but 9:54 of the game, but could never pull away with their largest lead being 13. In the semifinal, the Lancers took on the top seed Oakland City University in a high paced physical game. Kensie Ryman would score just nine points for the Lancers, but would be the hero with a layup at the buzzer to take down the Mighty Oaks 75-73. Maddie Ryman once again led the team in points with 22 while Peyton Murphy recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Maddie Ryman earned the honor of Tournament Most Outstanding Player. See a complete list of awards including All-Tournament, Scholar-Athletes, and more here.
