Five, Six, and Seven Seeds Earn Victories on Day Two of the NCCAA Division I Men’s Soccer National Championship

Kissimmee, FL – Day two of the NCCAA Division I Men’s Soccer National Championship saw the five six and seven seeds all earn victories, highlighted by a 5-1 win from (6) Nelson American Indian College. Pablo Pulido would record a hat trick for the Warriors to lead the charge in Kissimmee. Pool play will conclude tomorrow with three matches starting at 5 p.m. ET. 
 
Pool A: #6 Nelson American Indian College 5, #9 Dallas Christian College 1
  • After very few chances in the first 20 minutes, Nelson American Indian College broke the ice in their first game of the tournament with a goal from Pablo Pulido. Pulido would go high from just outside the 18-yard box to score and give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Pablo Pulido show for Nelson American Indian continued into the 29th minute, recording a cleanup goal inside the box that would deflect off the crossbar and just cross the line. Parker Linehart was credited with the assist on the ball into the box. 
  • The Warriors would hold the 2-0 lead into the half, outscoring Dallas Christian 6-4. 
  • After assisting on a goal in the first half, Parker Linehart was the recipient of some outstanding passing in the 53rdminute to score his first goal of the game. Nelson American Indian would increase their advantage to 3-0. 
  • Parker Linehart was not done, using his head just two minutes later for an additional goal to make it 4-0 in favor of the Warriors. 
  • Paublo Pulido rejoined the scoring party with the team’s third goal in just over three minutes. The goal would serve as a hat trick for Pulido after the Warriors saw a looped header go off the crossbar and Pulido was there to clean it up.
  • Dallas Christian would get one back in the 89th minute off the foot of Anthony Tranquilinio to end the match in a 5-1 final in favor of Nelson American Indian College. 

Pool B: #5 Ecclesia College 3, #8 Ohio Christian University 1
  • Ecclesia would play their first match of the tournament while Ohio Christian looked to respond after a loss to Campbellsville a day ago. Through the first half hour of play the two sides were well balanced each recording a pair of shots on goal. One of the shots on goal for Ohio Christian resulted in a Trailblazer celebration but was called off by the official as the ball did not cross the line. 
  • After the near goal, Ohio Christian started to find an offensive edge in the final 15 minutes of the second half but only saw three of their nine shots on net. The game remained scoreless at halftime. 
  • After Ohio Christian was unable to capitalize in the first half, Ecclesia would in the second, finding the game’s first goal in the 61st minute. Baraka Odenyo would use his pace to win the far sideline and find Julius Herzog for the goal. 
  • The Trailblazers would find an equalizer in the 68th minute after a foul near the endline inside the box. Caleb Rose would score on a penalty kick to tie the match at one.  
  • Ecclesia immediately went back on the attack looking to secure the three points. They would find a game winner in the 82nd minute as Julius Herzog once again found the net to make it 2-1. Jahmaine Bartlette added an insurance goal in the 88th minute to give Ecclesia the 3-1 victory. 

Pool C: #7 Columbia International University 1, #4 Nelson University 0
  • Two of the tallest and most physical teams would battle to end the night in Nelson University and Columbia International. The Lions were the first to see an opportunity finding the back of the net in the 13th minute, but it was called back for offsides. 
  • Columbia International would capitalize on the Nelson goal that was taken back in the 38th minute as Ive Celic fought through contact and was able to chip the Lions goalkeeper while nearly falling to score the first goal of the match. 
  • The Rams would hold the 1-0 lead going into the half. Both teams recorded four shots with a pair on net in the first 45 minutes. 
  • Columbia International nearly found a second early in the second half, but a shot would go just high to keep it 1-0. 
  • Nelson would press in the final 20 minutes but were unable to find a response, resulting in a 1-0 Rams victory to end the night. The Rams would move to four points and the top of Pool C.
