PC: Kaitlyn Havens Ozark Christian College Wins First NCCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship 3/15/2025 10:13:38 PM Minneapolis, MN – Ozark Christian College led from start to finish in the 2025 NCCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship game, downing the defending champions Simmons College of Kentucky 75-72 to earn their first title in program history. The Ambassadors shot 64.3% in the first quarter and never looked back, using the fast break to hold off a pesky Simmons team throughout the game. Emmy Colin led Ozark Christian with 20 points in the game, scoring key buckets down the stretch to hold off a Simmons fourth quarter comeback. Championship: #3 Ozark Christian College – 75, #4 Simmons College Kentucky – 72 After slow starts in each of their first two games of the tournament, Ozark Christian College shot the lights out to start the 2025 National Championship, led by Reagan Etzel’s 10 points in the first five minutes. The Ambassadors would hold an 18-11 lead with 4:30 to play in the first quarter. Asia Cochran would respond with 11 first quarter points of her own to help keep Simmons College Kentucky close, as the Falcons trailed 27-22 after the first 10 minutes. Both teams would shoot 50% or better in the period, but Ozark Christian would highlight the action with a 64.3% clip led by Reagan Etzel’s 15 points. Both offenses slowed down significantly in the second quarter as the two sides combined to go 9-28 from the field. Ozark Christian continued to lockdown the Simmons threats on the defensive end, holding Morgan Defoor to 3-of-12 from the field in the first half. Ozark Christian would increase their lead by one at the half, 40-34. The Ambassadors saw six of seven players who entered the game hit a field goal. Ozark Christian would start the third quarter by increasing their lead to its largest of nine on a Brooka Jones and one bucket. Simmons would respond immediately with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit back to just one at 43-42. The Ambassadors immediately responded with a 9-2 run capped off by an Emmy Colin jumper to go up by 10 with 4:03 to play in the third quarter. They Emmy Colin show continued to end the third quarter, as a Colin three would give them a 12-point lead. Ozark led 65-53 to end the third quarter. Simmons would begin to chip away in the last 10 minutes. Asia Cochran hit a big three with 3:15 to go to tie the game at 70. Cochran would later foul out causing Simmons to have to go to the bench down the stretch. Needing a bucket, Brooke Nice hit a massive layup for Ozark Christian to go back up by two points with 2:02 to play. Simmons would have two chances to tie it with a three in the final minute but were unable to convert. Ozark Christian hit their free throws down the stretch and would secure a 75-72 victory for their first NCCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship in program history. 3rd Place Game: #7 North Central University – 78, #1 Pensacola Christian College - 55 The buckets were falling early as both sides hit a pair of threes in the first quarter. It was the size inside though that gave North Central University a 16-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, as Kailtyn VanderPloeg hit a layup to end the period. A three from Jackie Lindsay would give North Central their largest lead of the game early in the second quarter, making it 21-14. Pensacola Christian College would immediately respond with a 6-0 run to force a Rams timeout and cut the deficit back to one. Kaitlyn VanderPloeg would end the first half with a double-double recording 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead North Central to a 35-29 advantage. With much of the attention being on Kaitlyn VanderPloeg in the third quarter it opened the floor for Rams shooters. Piper Flemming and Brycelyn Brewster took advantage bringing the North Central lead to 10 points. North Central saw four third quarter threes fall to balloon their lead to 61-43 at the end of the period. North Central would shoot 49.2% from the field and Kaitlyn VanderPloeg would end the game with a game high 22 points and 17 rebounds to beat Pensacola Christian 78-55 and earn third place at the 2025 NCCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championships. 5th Place Game: #2 Champion Christian College - 67, #5 Great Lakes Christian College - 50 After having surgery two days ago following the quarterfinal game, the fifth-place game began with Devan Buda starting one last time and being granted a bucket for Great Lakes Christian before exiting the court one final time. Champion Christian would control the final five minutes of the third quarter to take an early lead and never look back. Reagan Moilan hit three first quarter threes including one at the buzzer after a steal. The Tigers doubled-up Great Lakes Christian at the end of the first quarter, 22-11. Champion continued to dominate the three-point line ending the first half with six of them to hold a 34-24 advantage. Reagan Moilan continued to lead the way with 14 points on 4-of-5 from behind the arc. Reagan Moilan would re-enter late in the third quarter and hit yet another three while a foul occurred away from the ball for a rare four-point play. Champion Christian would cruise to a 52-37 lead at the end of the third quarter. Champion Christian would hold a 10+ point lead for the entirety of the fourth quarter to earn a 76-50 win and take fifth place at the 2025 NCCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championships.
