Kansas City, MO – A total of 97 runs were scored in the first six games of the 2025 NCCAA Baseball World Series, as the offense highlights action at the Kansas City Royals Urban Youth Academy. The top seed Oakland City got a win on the day, while the host (9) Kansas Christian went 1-1, and (7) Mission University went a perfect 2-0 on the day. Action will continue Monday at 11 a.m. CT with six more games in the double elimination format tournament.
Game One: #9 Kansas Christian College – 15, #8 Judson University - 13
- Kansas Christian College got off to a great with a two out RBI single from Roman Sherman muscled into center field in the top of the first inning. Jake Galloway would come around to score to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
- After getting the first three runners on, Judson University would respond with a sacrifice fly from Hudson Deal to tie the game at one.
- After a 1-2-3 inning for both sides in the second, Kansas Christian would get back to the offense, scoring four runs in the third. The Falcons would record five singles and a walk to take a 5-1 lead and force Judson starter Ryan Risch out of the game.
- Owen Wanner would give up one more run in relief for the Eagles, as the Falcons would bat around and score another run on their sixth single of the inning to go on top 6-1 in the third inning.
- Judson would immediately get a pair of runs back on a two RBI double from Daley Thompson in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to 6-3.
- In the fourth inning, Jesus Reyes of Kansas Christian capped off the inning with a two-out triple that would score three and clear the bases. Reyes would try for an inside the park home run but be called out at home to end the inning. The Falcons increased their lead to six, 9-3 headed to the bottom of the fourth.
- Judson would get one run back in the bottom of the fourth with a bases loaded walk to make it 9-4.
- Judson had no answer to keep Falcons off the base pads, allowing a pair of runs on bases loaded walks before another hit scored two more to make it 13-4.
- A wild pitch would score a 14th Kansas Christian run to put the run rule into effect in the fifth inning.
- Judson would avoid the run rule, with Blake Stempowski hitting a two RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit back to eight at 14-6. A sacrifice fly would add another run to make it 14-7 headed to the seventh. After two more scored, Kansas Christian would make their first pitching change of the game, bringing in Connor Taylor to take the mound.
- The Eagles continued to chip back into the game with a bases clearing three RBI double from Ryan Pitzer in the eighth inning that brought Judson within two runs going into the ninth.
- Kansas Christian would add a much-needed insurance run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly to make it 15-12. The Falcons bullpen did just enough to secure the victory in game one over Judson, 15-13.
Game Two: #7 Mission University - 5, #10 Arlington Baptist University - 1
- Mission University would take advantage of a two out walk and back-to-back singles to bring home Brennan Montgomery and make it 1-0.
- Carter Fagan would hit a massive RBI double in the top of the second for Arlington Baptist University to tie the game at one, bringing home JP Mendoza who was hit by the pitch earlier in the inning.
- In the third inning, Mission would regain the lead with an RBI single from Grant Merryman up the middle to make it 2-1.
- Mission’s Jackson Vestal would find a groove after the run he gave up to Arlington Baptist in the second, allowing just one hit through five innings of work.
- Mission would add to their lead in the sixth with a two RBI double from Tate Wheeler an RBI single from Brennan Montgomery. The Patriots would lead 5-1, with all three runs in the sixth being scored with two outs.
- Jackson Vestal would throw 130 pitches and get through eight innings to help Mission hold the 5-1 lead. Vestal left the game allowing just one unearned run while striking out seven batters.
- Garret Hunter would pitch to a 1-2-3 ninth inning for Mission to secure the 5-1 victory in their first game of the NCCAA Baseball World Series to stay in the winner’s bracket and earn a date with the top seed Oakland City University later in the evening.
Game Three: #3 University of Fort Lauderdale – 10, #6 Southwestern Christian University – 9
- Southwestern Christian University got off to a great start, capitalizing on a pair of walks and a single with a bases clearing three RBI double from Dario Paredes in the top of the first inning.
- In the bottom of the first inning, Wilbert Javier-Vargas got the University of Fort Lauderdale on the board with the tournament’s first home run to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- Fort Lauderdale would continue to find ways to get to Southwestern Christian’s ace Elian Cuevas, scoring five runs in the second inning to take the lead, 6-3. Cuevas would issue two bases loaded walks, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly after a balk scored the first run of the inning.
- Southwestern Christian would cut the deficit back to two runs in the fourth inning, seeing Joseph Boone score on a double play.
- That insurance run was given right back in the bottom of the fourth as an error scored Erik Scott.
- Southwestern Christian then took their turn to find the long ball, recording a solo home run in the fifth and a two-run shot in the sixth to tie the game. Draike Sparks highlighted the action with the two-run shot to right field that tied the game, 7-7.
- The lead would change hands back to Southwestern Christian in the top of the seventh after two errors and a hit by pitch brought up Jhors Gomez. Gomez would hit an RBI single to make it 8-7. The two sides would combine for five errors through seven innings.
- Wilbert Javier-Vargas kept the lead changes going with a two RBI single up the middle to give Fort Lauderdale a 9-8 advantage. Javier Vargas added his third and fourth RBI of the game.
- Down to their final three outs, Southwestern Christian wasted no time, with a triple from Gregory Berroa and an RBI single from Matys Gagnon. The game would sit tied at nine going into the bottom of the ninth inning.
- Fort Lauderdale would continue to respond as well, as Rolando Lujo would smoke a ball over the center fielders head to score Ryan Rifenberg from first to give the Eagles a 10-9 walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Game Four: #4 Jessup University – 15, #5 Campbellsville University – 2 (7 innings)
- Campbellsville University was a difficult out early in the game, with the first three runners getting on base via a hit. Zane Skansi highlighted the action with a two RBI double that scored Lorenzo Gonzalez and Trent Buchanan.
- Tristin Crusenberry got off to a great start for the Tigers on the mound, throwing just 22 pitches in the first two innings without allowing a hit.
- In the top of the third, Jessup University would make two great defensive plays that saw first baseman Cole Anderson making a diving stop and a nice pick to record a quick 1-2-3 inning.
- Swinging early and often helped the Warriors score six in the bottom of the third inning. Nick Poss hit a two RBI triple that put Jessup in front before a wild pitch, error, and RBI single made it 6-2.
- Jessup continued to pour it on in the fourth, with a triple and an RBI double to increase the lead to five and force Campbellsville into a pitching change as Jackson Dollar would enter the game. Dollar would get two outs in the fourth to end the inning and keep the score at 7-2.
- The Warriors would record their second six run inning of the game in the bottom of the fifth to balloon the lead to 13-2. Jessup’s first five batters of the inning recorded a hit to spark the big inning.
- After giving up three hits to the first three batters, Hailama Swartman of Jessup retired 16 Campbellsville hitters in a row to hold the Warrior lead.
- Nick Poss added his fourth RBI of the game with a double in the bottom of the sixth inning for Jessup, as the Warriors scored two more to increase the lead to 15-2.
- Nolan Thebiay would come in to pitch the seventh for Jessup and would down strikeout the side to earn a 15-2 seven-inning run rule victory over Campbellsville.
Game Five: #7 Mission University – 9, #2 Concordia University Ann Arbor – 6
- Concordia University Ann Arbor would find a first inning run after some small ball got baserunners on. Kyle Hebner would later ground into a double play, but Justin Kozlowski would score to put them in front over Mission University.
- Trey Mulholland would tie the game in the top of the third inning with a sacrifice fly for Mission to make it 1-1.
- Concordia would respond right away with an RBI single in the bottom of the third that would once again score Justin Kozlowski to go back on top 2-1. An error later in the inning allowed the Cardinals to score an insurance run and make it 3-1 going into the fourth.
- Justin Kozlowski’s big day continued in the fourth inning for Concordia adding his first RBI of the day to improve the Cardinal advantage to 4-1. Through Kozlowski’s first three at bats, he was 2-2 with a walk, two runs scored, and an RBI.
- Concordia would make it three straight innings with runs scored, with two more in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double and single. The Cardinals led Mission 6-1 going into the sixth.
- Trey Acker would go five innings on the mound for Concordia allowing just one run and five hits before running into some trouble in the sixth. Mission would score two runs on a fielder’s choice and an error to cut the deficit to 6-3 and force a Cardinal pitching change.
- The Patriots would add two more on the Concordia bullpen later in the sixth. Carter Vienhage hit an RBI single that would bring two home after an error to make it a one run game. Concordia would finally get the final out needed to get out of the inning while maintaining a 6-5 lead.
- Concordia reliever Blake Weaver would give up a leadoff triple in the top of the eighth and then proceed to strikeout the side to protect the Cardinals one run lead.
- Concordia would not have such luck in the top of the ninth, allowing the tying run on a wild pitch. The Patriots added the go ahead run on the Cardinals fifth error of the day to take their first lead of the game, before Dylan Blehm hit a two RBI single to make it 9-6.
- Mission was able to sit Concordia down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth to secure a 2-0 opening day at the 2025 NCCAA Baseball World Series with the 9-6 victory.
Game Six: #1 Oakland City University – 8, #9 Kansas Christian College – 4
- Jesus Reyes picked up right where he left off in game one with a sparkling defensive play in the bottom of the first inning to go along with a double and a run scored in the top of the second. Kansas Christian College would garnish a 1-0 lead over the top seed Oakland City University early.
- Oakland City’s Kendric Sorguis became the second hitter of the day to attempt an inside the park home run. He would be gunned down at home but would bring home the tying run in teammate Will Gibbs to tie the game at one.
- Kansas Christian responded right away with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning. Angel Parra would rope a ball just inside the foul pole down the right field line to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead and force a Mighty Oaks pitching change.
- Oakland City would find their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth scoring a run on a fielder’s choice before Keifer Wilson hit a two RBI double to put the Mighty Oaks in front 4-3.
- Kansas Christian would tie the game and force another pitching change after three consecutive singles in the top of the sixth. Before the change was made, Roman Sherman would hit a sacrifice fly to score the tying run for the Falcons. Chase Rubenacker would get the much needed out with the bases loaded to keep the game tied for Oakland City and get their offense back to the plate.
- Fred Fernandez would become the Oakland City hero in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single that would bring in the run that gave the Mighty Oaks the lead once and for all.
- Oakland City would add insurance runs in the eighth, and their strong pitching staff would hold off the Falcons the remainder of the game to earn an 8-4 victory in the nightcap of day one at the NCCAA Baseball World Series.
