Kansas City, MO – Six more games finished at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy leaving the NCCAA Baseball World Series with six teams remaining. Action was highlighted by (4) Judson University and (6) Southwestern Christian University taking the final two spots in the winner’s bracket in the World Series. Game Seven: #9 Ohio Christian University – 3, #5 College of the Ozarks - 2
- The pitching highlighted the start of the elimination contest between College of the Ozarks and Ohio Christian University as starters Braden Williams and Cameron Jennings held their opponents scoreless through the first inning.
- Command issues took shape in the second inning. Ozarks was able to find a run after back-to-back hit by pitches that brought home Alex Nimmo to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. A second Ozarks run would score on a walk to make it 2-0 after one and a half innings of play.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning Ohio Christian found their response. Stephen Larkins hit a crucial two out two-run home run to left center tying the game at two.
- After the home run both sides starters would get back in rhythm. Despite four total hits through the fifth and top of the sixth innings no runs would score as it stayed 2-2.
- The trend of pitching coming in waves continued, as Ozarks starter Cameron Jennings would walk a batter with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning to allow Ryota Hoga to score giving Ohio Christian their first lead, 3-2.
- Ozarks continued to threaten to tie or take the lead, but Ohio Christian would find a way out every time. In the top of the eighth inning the Bobcats would load the bases for the third time in the game without scoring to keep things at 3-2.
- Ohio Christian starter Braden Williams would stay in for the ninth inning looking to secure the victory. Williams would strike out two of the three batters in the ninth to get a 1-2-3 inning and keep the Trailblazers season alive with a 3-2 victory over College of the Ozarks.
Game Eight: #10 Kansas Christian College – 8, #3 Ecclesia College - 7
- Ecclesia College would threaten early and often, loading the bases in each of the first three innings. Kansas Christian College starter Nate Boen would do enough to get out of each inning however to keep the game scoreless.
- Ecclesia starter Drew Elmore was dominant first time through the order, facing the minimum and striking out three batters through three innings to keep Kansas Christian scoreless.
- Drew Elmore would give up his first base runner in the bottom of the fourth inning on a hit by pitch with one out. He would navigate the remainder of the inning with the help of a caught stealing to keep Kansas Christian from threatening. The Royals would come to bat in the fifth inning with the game still scoreless.
- Kansas Christian continued to dance around trouble. After allowing runners to second and third with no outs, a huge double play would help Nate Boen have a chance to get out of the inning. Ecclesia finally was able to find the runs they needed after back-to-back RBI doubles from KJ Merriweather and Gustavo Soto to make it 2-0.
- Kansas Christian immediately responded with an inside the park home run on their first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Dorrian Arraiz was flying around the bases after a ball he hit deep to center field and was able to score to cut the deficit to 2-1.
- The home run opened the flood gates for the Falcons. They would force Drew Elmore out of the game after scoring six runs in the inning. After the home run, Drew Lippold would highlight the offensive eruption with a bases clearing three RBI double to put Kansas Christian in front 6-2.
- KJ Merriweather would double for Ecclesia to start the sixth inning to help the Royals pitch a comeback. Merriweather would later score on a sacrifice fly to make it 6-3. Clay Fisher later hit an RBI single to trim the deficit to two.
- Ecclesia continued to chip away in the top of the seventh inning after a bases loaded hit by pitch scored Chayse Dutile to bring the Royals back within one, 6-5.
- A sacrifice fly from Dorian Arraiz and smart baserunning from Kansas Christian provided crucial insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Falcons added two runs to increase their lead back to three, 8-5.
- The insurance runs would not hold for long. Ecclesia once again responded with a two RBI double from KJ Merriweather in the top of the eighth to bring the deficit back to one at 8-7.
- The intensity skyrocketed in the top of the eighth inning after a balk that was initially called on Kansas Christian to score the tying run was overruled. The Falcons would record a crucial strikeout to strand runners at first and third and hold their 8-7 edge going into the bottom of the eighth inning.
- Corbin Sprague would get the final four outs for Kansas Christian under immense pressure to secure the 8-7 victory for the Falcons and keep their season alive in the NCCAA Baseball World Series.
Game Nine: #4 Judson University – 12, #1 University of Fort Lauderdale – 4
- The home run ball highlighted the opening inning between the University of Fort Lauderdale and Judson University. In the top of the inning Rolando Lujo hit a solo shot to put Fort Lauderdale in front 1-0. Blake Stempowski responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run shot to give Judson the 2-1 edge.
- Fort Lauderdale, as they have all season, would string together hits to score a run and tie the game at two. Jun Moeller singled to open the inning, Michael Santiago later doubled, which allowed Gabriel Mangual to score on a groundout later in the top of the second.
- The back-and-forth continued as Judson would also score in their trip to the plate in the second inning. Allan Navarro hit a bases clearing three RBI double to put Judson in front by their largest lead of three, 5-2.
- Rolando Lujo and Jun Moeller recorded two of the five hits for Fort Lauderdale in the top of the third inning, both tallying an RBI to instantly to put the Eagles back within one run of Judson, 5-4.
- Judson kept the streak going of at least one run in each of the first three innings, as Derek Cintron hit an RBI double with two outs to score Kyle Schwartz and make it 6-4 Eagles.
- In the top of the fourth, Judson pitcher Alijah Acevedo would record his first clean inning to keep the lead at 6-4.
- Judson made it four straight innings with a run, as Blake Stempowski earned his third RBI of the game on a groundout to put the Eagles back in front by three through four innings.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, Judson would add one more run on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Flores. The Eagles increased their lead to its largest of 8-4 after holding Fort Lauderdale scoreless for two straight innings.
- Alijah Acevedo would continue to get stronger on the mound as the innings went on for Judson, but he also would provide himself some insurance at the plate. The pitcher, batting second in the lineup, hit a bases clearing three RBI double to blow the game open and give Judson a 12-4 advantage in the bottom of the seventh inning.
- Alijah Acevedo would finish the game on the mound for Judson to secure the 12-4 complete game victory and keep the Eagles in the winner’s bracket. Acevedo did not give up a run after the third inning in the victory.
Game 10: #6 Southwestern Christian University - 5, #2 Mission University - 4
- Pitching highlighted the opening innings in a winner’s bracket contest between Southwestern Christian University and Mission University. Eagles starter Anderson Paredes faced the minimum through two innings, while Patriots starter Trey Mulholland dealt with more traffic but held the Eagles scoreless.
- Anderson Paredes continued his dominance on the mound in the top of the third, striking out the side. Through three innings he continued to face the minimum.
- Southwestern Christian’s offense finally found a run in the bottom of the third inning. Royce Florenzano stayed red hot with his fourth home run of the tournament, hitting a line drive shot to left field to make it 1-0.
- After retiring the first 11 batters, Anderson Paredes would walk Zachary Beatty for Mission’s first base runner. The very next batter of CJ Miser would then end the no-hit bid with a single up the middle. After a mound visit, the Patriots would continue to muster some offense together, as Clay Palen hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.
- Mission again created two-out havoc in the top of the fifth inning to take their first lead of the game. Kaedan Thompson hit a two RBI double after a walk and a hit by pitch to put the Patriots in front 3-1. All three Mission runs would score with two outs.
- Southwestern Christian would find their bats again in the bottom of the sixth inning. A clutch two RBI double from Phoenix Nelson would tie the game at three. Immediately following, Braden Browning would hit an RBI single to put the Eagles in front again, 4-3.
- Mission responded right away in the top of the seventh inning, forcing Anderson Paredes out of the game after an RBI double from Kaedan Jacobs would tie the game at four.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Mission starter Trey Mulholland would return to the hill with over 100 pitches already thrown. Southwestern Christian would see a double from Dominic Ornelas to open the inning, forcing the Patriots to the bullpen. On the first pitch seen by the bullpen, the Eagles would take the lead after Elvis Rojas hit an RBI single to bring the score to 5-4.
- Jackson Robertson would record the final three outs for Southwestern Christian as they secured a 5-4 win to remain unbeaten in the NCCAA Baseball World Series.
Game 11: #7 Toccoa Falls College - 13, #9 Ohio Christian University - 10
- Toccoa Falls College, in their first game of the day, wasted no time finding the scoreboard. Branson Dykes tripled in the bottom of the first inning to score two runs and give the Screaming Eagles a 2-0 advantage.
- Ohio Christian University found an instant response in the top of the second scoring a run on a Scott Moats RBI single and a Matt Keener sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.
- A crucial error by Toccoa Falls in the top of the third inning allowed Ohio Christian to take their first lead of the game. DJ Crocker gave himself up on a sacrifice bunt, but an error by the pitcher allowed Stephen Larkins to score from second and put the Trailblazers in front 3-2.
- The back-and-forth continued, as Toccoa Falls regained the lead in the top of the third inning. Ohio Christian pitchers walked four batters and hit two to create constant traffic on the bases. The Screaming Eagles took advantage with three RBI hits that scored eight runs in the inning and put Toccoa Falls in front 10-3.
- Toccoa Falls defended their lead with some outstanding defense. Nick Eckert made a web gem catch in the top of the fourth inning to hold the 10-3 advantage.
- In the top of the fifth inning Ohio Christian would get a run back. Stephen Larkins would triple and later score on a groundout to make it 10-4. Toccoa Falls starter Drew Ellsworth would quickly get out of the inning after the run scored to hold the six-run advantage.
- Toccoa Falls got the run right back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Will Miller singled and stole second, then Bricen Blakenship hit an RBI single to put the Screaming Eagles in front 11-4.
- Ohio Christian would get one more while Toccoa Falls would continue to pour on runs in the sixth. Carson Fuchs tripled for the Screaming Eagles to score two more and give Toccoa a 13-5 advantage going into the seventh inning.
- The wind cost Toccoa Falls late, allowing Ohio Christian to score five runs in the top of the eighth to make the game interesting at 13-10. DJ Crocker would clear the bases for three RBI on a ball that was misplayed in the wind to give the Trailblazers a chance.
- The sixth pitcher of the day Joshua Ramey would earn the save for Toccoa Falls to secure the 13-10 victory. The Screaming Eagles advanced to the final six teams and will take on the top-seed University of Fort Lauderdale tomorrow in a South Regional Championship rematch at 2:30 p.m. CT.
Game 12: #8 Nelson University American Indian College - 11, Kansas Christian College – 7
- Nelson University American Indian College took advantage of Corbin Sprague pitching on short rest for Kansas Christian College, scoring four quick runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brandon Ramirez and Adrian Nunez each recorded two RBI singles to give the Warriors the 4-0 lead.
- After Corbin Sprague recorded the second out, Nelson American Indian would continue to pile on runs. In his second at bat of the inning, Gerardo Paco hit a bases clearing single to plate three more and make it 7-0. Kansas Christian would be forced to go to the bullpen down 7-0.
- Kansas Christian would respond right away in the top of the second to cut into the deficit. The Falcons scored three runs, highlighted by an RBI single from Denzel Rincon. Kansas Christian trailed 7-3 going into the bottom of the second.
- Kansas Christian continued to chip away in the top of the third inning. Dorian Arraiz, who hit an inside the park home run earlier in the day, got one up in the jet stream to get one over the fence for his second home run of the day. The Falcons cut the deficit to three, 7-4.
- Tommy Thomas of Kansas Christian began to stifle the Nelson American Indian offense after coming out of the bullpen, retiring the side 1-2-3 in the second and third innings. The score remained 7-4 until the fifth inning.
- Nelson American Indian College finally got to Tommy Thomas in the bottom of the fifth. Adrian Nunez nearly hit a home run but would settle for an RBI triple to double up Kansas Christian 8-4. The Nunez RBI was his third of the game.
- The Warriors added one more run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning to increase their lead to 9-4.
- Errors would cost Nelson American Indian in the top of the seventh inning. Three errors would allow three Kansas Christian runs to score to instantly get the Falcons back in the game at 9-7.
- The Warrior offense had an answer, scoring two runs to force Tommy Thomas out of the game. Sahe Doree took advantage of an intentional walk to Adrian Nunez with a two RBI double to increase the Nelson lead to 11-7.
- Esteban Acevedo would get the final six outs for Nelson American Indian College to secure the 11-7 victory and advance to the final six teams in the NCCAA Baseball World Series. The Warriors will continue play tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. CT against Mission University.
Six teams remain headed into the second to last day of the NCCAA Baseball World Series. Action continues tomorrow starting at 11 a.m. CT with the winner’s bracket game.
