Houghton College Goes to PKs to Win DI National Women's Soccer Championship

Seeded #2, Houghton College (NY) took #1 Mississippi College all the way to penalty kicks to win the NCCAA National Women's Soccer Championship.  It is the first time they have won this championship.

3757The Highlanders won their pool defeating #7 Columbia International University (SC) 4-0, #6 Warner University (FL) 5-0, and #3 Mid-America Christian University 1-0, sending the team to the finals.  In the championship match, the Choctaws of Mississippi College held a 1-0 lead from the 30 minute mark throughout the entire game until HC scored on a free kick with 1.7 seconds left on the clock to send the match to overtime.  After two scoreless halves, the teams went to a shootout with the Highlanders netting 4 goals to MC's two, claiming the title.
