Samuel Larson Named 2026 John and Jody Wheeler Award Winner for Men's Outdoor Track & Field

Greenville, SC - The NCCAA is pleased to recognize Samuel Larson of Campbellsville University as the 2026 John and Jody Wheeler Award recipient for Men’s Outdoor Track & Field. 
 
37457A junior from Lewisburg, Kentucky, Larson has been a stalwart in the distance events for the Tigers during his career, as his time of 10:33.66 in the steeplechase ranks as the second fastest mark in the NCCAA. Steeplechase has been his specialty during his time with Campbellsville, as he finished eighth in the event at the 2025 NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships and has earned Mid-South All-Conference twice in the event. Larson also holds top-30 times in the 800-meter run (1:59.95) and the 1500-meter run (4:11.40).
 
Larson has excelled in the classroom, double majoring in business and English, holding a 3.8 GPA, and earning spots on the Dean’s and President’s Lists, all while being the Tigers’ team captain. He has also served his community, leading morning devotionals with his teammates while being a Residence Assistant and has been on mission trips to Atlanta.

Award Description
John and Jody Wheeler were involved in supporting athletic activities of Christian high schools and colleges throughout their lives. Jody passed in 2019, and John passed in 2025 after a lifetime of actively participating in supporting Christian athletics via the NCCAA. He served on the NCCAA Board for 35 years and he and Jody founded the NCCAA Pro-Am event that has provided over $2,000,000 in support for the NCCAA since 1988. A Taylor University graduate who knew the benefit of a Christian worldview and a lifelong pursuit for God's truth, John was inducted into the NCCAA Hall of Fame in 2002.
