Wilmore, K.Y. – Charles Jones of Sterling College took home two medals on day two of the NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, taking gold in the long jump and silver in the high jump on Thursday, May 7. After the second day of competition, the Warriors lead the way with 43 points, while Campbellsville University sits in second with 36 points, followed by Lancaster Bible College and Malone University who sit tied for third with 29 points.
TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
- Mouhamed Pouye and Schavon Carr of Campbellsville University both took the top two spots in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles to move on to tomorrow’s final, with Pouye winning his heat with a time of 14.90 seconds, while Carr took his heat with a time of 15.32 seconds.
- The top three runners in the 100-meter dash prelims rewrote the record books, as Bethel’s Lamarr Williams took his heat and had the fastest time of the group with a time of 10.36 seconds, tied for the fourth-fastest time in NCCAA history. Mick Wright from Grace College won his heat with the second-fastest time of 10.47 seconds, the tenth-fastest time in NCCAA history, while Williams’ teammate James Gill won his heat with a time of 10.53 seconds, tied for the 20th fastest time in NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship history.
- For the second year in a row, the quartet of Tyler Twining, Eric Dehmer, Xander Heil and Brylan Holland took home the gold in the 4x800 meter relay for Malone University, winning the race with a time of 7:50.15. Grace College finished in second place for the second year in a row with a time of 7:53.78 from the team of Kyle Olszewski, Caleb Nichols, Alex Pinkleton, and John Young, while the team from Mid-America Christian University of Luky Maila, Blake Jensen, Collin Seely, and Chase Cotarelo earning third-place and All-American honors in the event for the first time in the Evangels’ history with a time of 7:59.47.
- Gill continued to etch his name into the top times for Bethel, taking the top time in the prelims of the 200-meter run with a time of 21.22 seconds, the tenth-fastest time in NCCAA history. Phil Stupka of Malone just edged out Lamarr Williams of Bethel for the second spot, as he took his heat with a time of 21.456 seconds, while Williams won his heat with a time of 21.459 seconds.
- Tanner Bailey closed out the night on the track, as the College of the Ozarks athlete took home the gold in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 30:49.66, his second straight year earning All-American honors in the event. That mark is also the seventh-fastest in NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field history. Martin Batel of Campbellsville finished behind him with a time of 30:58.11, the eighth fastest mark in the history of the event, while David Helms of Lancaster Bible College closed out the top three with a time of 31:30.86.
FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
- Lancaster Bible College took gold and silver in the javelin, as Kyle Durkin took first place with a toss of 58.56 meters, while his teammate Hudson Gosselin finished second with a throw of 56.83 meters. Durkin’s winning throw on his fifth attempt is the 13th best mark in NCCAA history, while Gosselin’s silver sling is a new personal best. Clayton Martin of Grace College finished third with a toss of 56.18 meters, earning the senior NCCAA All-American honors for the first time in his outdoor career.
- In a repeat from last year, Cedric Wilson and Charles Jones from Sterling College took first and second in the high jump, but Wilson took home the gold this year, clearing the bar with a jump of 2.03 meters on his first attempt, while Jones cleared the mark on his second jump, as the Warrior duo earned All-American honors for the second year in a row. Dallas Turner from Columbia International University finished third with a clearance of 1.93 meters
- Jones continued to claim All-American honors, this time earning the gold medal in the long jump with a distance of 7.16 meters. That mark is tied for the 18th best in NCCAA Championship history, as the Sterling sophomore just beat out JaQuez Campbell of Campbellsville University, who finished second with a distance of 7.14 meters. Anthony Willis of Wayland Baptist University finished third with a jump of 7.04 meters to claim bronze.
- After finishing second in the event last season, Sterling’s Blake Robertson would not be denied in the discus, winning the gold medal with a toss of 46.52 meters. The sophomore just beat out Marcus Bell of Campbellsville, who finished second with a toss of 46.27 meters, crushing his old personal best by almost five meters. Gavin Tribelo of Malone University finished third in the event with a distance of 45.35 meters.
DECATHLON HIGHLIGHTS
- Jack Jewett continued to hold the lead in the decathlon, opening Thursday morning’s action with an impressive showing in the 110-meter hurdles, winning the event by 1.35 seconds with a time of 15.86 seconds to push the Bethel University athlete to 3959 points. Wayland Baptist University’s Lonnie Irving and Lancaster Bible College’s Micah Richardson both ran in separate heats but finished with the exact same time to tie for second, as the two athletes won their heats with a time of 17.51 seconds, a personal best time for Richardson. That mark was enough to move Irving to third place in the overall standings with 3554 points.
- Columbia International University’s Hunter McCaskill continued his winning ways on Thursday, taking first in the discus with a toss of 29.63 meters, just beating out Ram teammate Mark Zagata, who finished second with a throw of 29.21 meters. Lancaster Bible’s Benjamin Cornish recorded a third-place finish in the event with his throw of 28.09 meters, a new personal best.
- Both McCaskill and Jewett went back and forth in the pole vault, clearing 3.95 meters on their second attempts. However, McCaskill was able to clear 3.85 meters on his second try, while Jewett did so on his third attempt, giving McCaskill the win and moving him within 450 points in the overall standings. Jewett’s Bethel teammate Christopher Korthuis took third with a clearance of 3.65 meters.
- Jewett continued to build on his lead, winning the javelin throw with a toss of 40.80 meters, the lone competitor to throw over 40 meters in the event. Irving finished second with a throw of 38.49 meters, demolishing his old personal best by over four meters, while Korthuis finished third with a throw of 38.15 meters.
- Zion Atwood from York University closed out his time in the decathlon, winning the 1500-meter run by almost eight seconds with a time of 4:54.49. Trailing the second place spot by just three points entering the race, McCaskill clinched the second-place finish with a time of 5:02.39, beating out Korthuis who finished third with a time of 5:03.78.
- Jewett took home gold in the event with 5758 points, becoming the first Bethel athlete to win the decathlon since 2022. McCaskill finished second with 5460 points, just beating out Korthuis who earned third with 5455 points.
Action at the 2026 NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships concludes on Friday, May 8 on the campus of Asbury University. The first men’s event begins at 9:00am ET with the 5000 meter run and concludes at 4:10pm ET with the 4x400 meter relay.
