Westmont College Claims 2023 DI Men’s Soccer National Championship 12/2/2023 8:51:55 PM Kissimmee, FL (12/2/23) - Westmont College captured its first-ever NCCAA Division I Men’s Soccer National Championship on Saturday after defeating No. 3 Campbellsville University 3-1. The Warriors got the scoring started about 11 minutes in as Daniel Tuscano took a shot that deflected past the goalkeeper. Tuscano scored his second of the game off a corner kick from Erik Guerrero that Tuscano blasted in from the top of the box. Connor Lynch added an insurance goal less than two minutes later to make it 3-0, though Campbellsville would score late in the game to make it 3-1. The Warriors held the Tigers to 3 shots-on-goal and goalkeeper Brady Highfill had 2 saves to pick up the win. The No. 2 seeded Warriors beat No. 8 Asbury University 3-1 to open pool play. Westmont’s Leonel Olivo Ortiz got the scoring started early, finding the back of the net in less than 20 seconds into the game. Guerrero scored on two penalty kicks to help secure the win. The Warriors then defeated No. 5 Wayland Baptist University 1-0 as Olivo Ortiz scored the game-winner in the first half. Highfill needed just one save to earn the shutout victory. After teams were reseeded for semifinals, Westmont battled to a 3-2 win over No. 4 Central Christian College of Kansas. Cash Anderholt gave the Warriors an early 1-0 lead before Central Christian tied it at 1-1. Miguel Alvarado gave Westmont a 2-1 lead heading into half on a penalty kick with less than two minutes remaining. Central Christian once again tied it in the second half, but Anderholt headed in the game-winning goal shortly after to help the Warriors advance to the championship game.
