Play Begins at 2024 NCCAA DII Men's Soccer National Championship

Kissimmee, FL – Play at the 2024 NCCAA DII Men’s Soccer National Championship opened on Monday, November 18, with #1 Bob Jones University defeating #8 Randall University 3-2, and #4 Grace Christian University defeating #5 Kansas Christian College 3-1 in Pool A, while #2 Boyce College defeated #7 Spurgeon College 5-3, and #6 Crown College defeated #3 Barclay College 1-0.

A goal from Bryce Ramler with 44 seconds left gave #1 Bob Jones the 3-2 victory over #8 Randall to open the day in Pool A. 
 
  • Randall took a 1-0 lead just 4:07 into the match, thanks to a goal by Abraham Dzintars off an assist from Jason Montanez Martinez
  • Bob Jones answered with a penalty kick later in the half by Mario Figueroa to square the match at 1-1 at the half.
  • Ryan Boldt gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead just three minutes into the second half off assists from Matthias Baladi from David Issa. 
  • Missael Castro of Randall tied the match after a pass from Ivan Cardenas in the 59th minute.
  • Ralmer’s game-winning goal is his fourth of the season.
  • Bob Jones outshot Randall 24-6, will 11 shots on goal to two in favor of the Bruins.
 
#2 Boyce College 5, #7 Spurgeon College 3
 
A hat trick from Ben Sowers proved to be enough for #2 Boyce, as the Bulldogs held on to a 5-3 win over #7 Spurgeon in game one of Pool B.
 
  • Sowers scored his first goal just 2:29 into the match, but a goal by Sage Ballard off an assist from Eduard Mangalagiu in the seventh minute tied the contest at one goal apiece.
  • Boyce answered in the 15th minute with a goal from Yonelson Alvarez off an assist from Sowers, but Caleb Hawkins tied the match off a ball from Sage Ballard to square the match back at 2-2.
  • Alvarez gave Boyce the lead back in the 42nd minute off a pass from Joel Issac. The Bulldogs swelled the lead just 42 seconds later off a second goal from Sowers to put Boyce ahead 4-2 at the half.
  • Jack Downey kept Spurgeon’s hopes alive in the second half off an assist from Rylen Ballard to cut the lead to 4-3 with 13:05 left in the contest.
  • Sowers completed the hat trick with a clutch penalty kick with less than eight minutes left in the match to give Boyce the 5-3 victory.
 
#4 Grace Christian University 3, #5 Kansas Christian College 1
 
A pair of second half goals pushed #2 Grace Christian over #7 Kansas Christian College 3-1 to close out the opening round of Pool A.
 
  • Kansas Christian took a 1-0 lead off a penalty kick by Javier Sanchez early in the first half.
  • Nathan Davis tied the match with just ten minutes left in the opening stanza off a pass from Ben Pollock.
  • The Tigers needed just 48 seconds into the second half to take the lead, as Caden Petroelje found Ryan Conkright in front of the goal to put GCU on top 2-1.
  • Nathan Davis tallied another point thanks to an assist on a Ben Pollock goal with less than three minutes left in the match to clinch the 3-1 victory for Grace Christian.
 
#6 Crown College 1, #3 Barclay College 0
 
A clean sheet from Leo Roque gave #6 Crown the 1-0 victory over #3 Barclay to wrap up day one of play in Pool B at the 2024 NCCAA DII Men’s Soccer National Championship.
 
  • The lone goal of the match came from Isaac Schultz off an assist from Omar Navarro with less than two minutes left in the first half.
  • Both keepers were busy, as Roque had four saves for Crown while Luan Nascimento picked up eight saves for Barclay.
  • Both teams totaled 12 shot attempts, but Barclay had four shots on goal compared to nine for Crown.
