Anastasia Noonkesser Upsets and Defense Highlight Day Two of Pool Play at 2024 NCCAA DII Men's Soccer National Championship 11/19/2024 6:19:54 PM Kissimmee, FL – Pool play continued at the 2024 NCCAA DII Men’s Soccer National Championship on Tuesday, November 19, with #1 Bob Jones University defeating #5 Kansas Christian College 4-0, and #8 Randall University defeating #4 Grace Christian University 3-0 in Pool A, while #2 Boyce College tied #6 Crown College 0-0, and #3 Barclay College defeated #7 Spurgeon College 2-0 in Pool B. #1 Bob Jones University 4, #5 Kansas Christian College 0 A brace from Asher Aurednik and a clean sheet by Cameron Braswell gave #1 Bob Jones University the 4-0 victory over #5 Kansas Christian College on day two of pool play. William Derbyshire kept the match scoreless early, saving a PK attempt by Anthony Ruiz of Bob Jones in the fourth minute. Asher Aurednik put Bob Jones ahead 1-0 in the 18th minute, off assists from Jake Provenzano and Reid Burgin. Aurednik added his second goal with 26 seconds before the half thanks to a pair of passes from Samuel Gaddis and Eli Solomon to put the Bruins on top 2-0. Anthony Ruiz added another goal for the Bruins in the second half off a pass from Rylan Boldt to put Bob Jones on top 3-0. Eli Solomon picked up his third point of the contest with three minutes left in the match, scoring a goal off an assist by Victor Muenapale. Bob Jones outshot Kansas Christian 31-2 and had 14 shots on goal compared to none for the Falcons. #2 Boyce College 0, #6 Crown College 0 Neither #2 Boyce College nor #6 Crown College could draw blood in their Pool B matchup, as the match ended in a 0-0 draw. Boyce looked to take the lead before the half, but a pair of saves by Leo Roque in the final four minutes kept the match scoreless at the half. Yonelson Alvarez had a wide-open goal early in the second half, but was just offsides, keeping the match at 0-0. Timmy Jackson had a goal also get called off for offsides with under seven minutes left in the match. Roque finished with his second straight clean sheet of the tournament, recording four saves for Crown. Sean Coulter picked up five saves for Boyce, including one with 25 seconds remaining to preserve the draw. #8 Randall University 3, #4 Grace Christian University 0 A goal and an assist for Francisco Perez helped #8 Randall University roll to a 3-0 victory over #4 Grace Christian in a Pool A contest. Randall peppered the box with three shots in the first five minutes of the match, finally connecting off a shot by Missael Castro thanks to a gorgeous pass from Francisco Perez to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Perez picked up a goal of his own later in the half, connecting on a penalty kick to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage. Nery Cardenas added to the Saints lead, scoring in the 65th minute to put Randall ahead 3-0. Leon Schmitter recorded five saves in the shutout win for Randall. #3 Barclay College 2, #7 Spurgeon College 0 A pair of goals in the final eleven minutes of the match gave the #3 Barclay College the 2-0 victory over #7 Spurgeon College to close out day two of play in Pool B. Spurgeon looked to have scored a goal 15 minutes into the match, but David Thang was just offsides. Kieran May looked to give Barclay the lead, but a timely stop by Issac DeRouchie kept the ball out of the net, and the two teams went into the half scoreless. With 11 minutes left in the match, Barclay finally found the back of the net, as Daniel Breytenbach scored the lone goal of the contest, taking the ball into the box and connecting on a laser to put Barclay ahead. Kieran May added an insurance goal with 90 seconds left, scoring off a pass from Breytenbach Barclay outshot Spurgeon 30-2 with 16 shots on goal. Both shots by the Knights were on target.
