Bob Jones University and Boyce College punch their ticket to the 2024 DII Men’s Soccer National Championship Match 11/21/2024 6:21:31 PM Kissimmee, FL – Top-seeded Bob Jones University and #2 Boyce College punched their ticket to the 2024 NCCAA DII Men’s Soccer National Championship match, as the Bruins won Pool A with a 4-0 win over #4 Grace Christian University, while the Bulldogs defeated defeated #3 Barclay College 5-0 to take home the top spot in Pool B. #8 Randall University tied #5 Kansas Christian College 2-2, and #6 Crown College defeated #7 Spurgeon College 6-2 to close out pool play. #1 Bob Jones University 4, #4 Grace Christian University 0 Top-seeded Bob Jones University clinched Pool A, knocking off #4 Grace Christian University 4-0 in their final match of pool play. Mario Figueroa put Bob Jones on top, connecting on a penalty kick in the 19th minute. Jake Provenzano added to the tally later in the first half, scoring off a pass from Matthias Baladi to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead at the break. Bob Jones found the back of the net once again to start the second half, as Rhys Solomon connected on a pass from Anthony Ruiz to push BJU up 3-0. Eli Solomon closed the contest out for the Bruins, scoring in the 80th minute to clinch the 4-0 win. Cameron Braswell and Luke Proenzano combined for a pair of saves in the shutout victory. #2 Boyce College 5, #3 Barclay College 0 An offensive onslaught from Yonelson Alvarez, Matt Protzman, and Ben Sowers was more than enough to push #2 Boyce College over #3 Barclay College 5-0 and into the championship match of the 2024 NCCAA DII Men’s Soccer National Championship. Yonelson Alvarez looked to have a wide-open goal early in the first half for Boyce, but a great save from Luan Nascimento to keep the contest scoreless. The Bulldogs finally got on the board, as Ben Sowers took a pair of pretty touch passes from Jude Hammen and Alvarez and powered the ball into the net to put Boyce ahead 1-0 in the 31st minute. Sowers recorded his second goal of the match late in the second half, as Alvarez and Sam Schuler connected with him inside the box to swell the Boyce lead to 2-0. Boyce continued to power ahead in the second half, this time with Sowers returning the favor to Alvarez, finding him inside the box to add another goal and the Bulldogs lead grew 3-0 in the 60thminute. Matt Protzman got into the stat sheet, scoring off an absolute laser from outside the box to put Boyce ahead 4-0 in the 64th minute. Protzman added another goal with just over nine minutes left in the match, scoring a goal off a free kick to clinch the 5-0 win for the Bulldogs. Sean Coulter racked up five saves for Boyce in his second shutout of the week. #5 Kansas Christian College 2, #8 Randall University 2 A pair of second half goals helped #5 Kansas Christian College salvage a 2-2 draw against #8 Randall University. Randall outshot Kansas Christian 8-1 in the first half, but just one shot was on goal, a score by Maximo Caldera off a pass from Nery Cardenas with 11 seconds left in the opening frame. Jason Montanez Martinez added another for Randall off a penalty kick in the 68th minute to put the Saints up 2-0. Kansas Christian answered, as Dhan Bhujel scored off assists from Javier Sanchez and Tyler Smalley. The Falcons then tied the game 2-2 in the 75th minute, thanks to a Patrick Wyatt goal off a pass from Javier Sanchez. Neither team could score in the final 14 minutes of the match, and the contest ended in a 2-2 draw. #6 Crown College 6, #7 Spurgeon College 2 A strong second half helped #6 Crown College pull away from #7 Spurgeon College to a 6-2 victory to close out play in Pool B. Gabriel Farenzena kept Crown off the board early, saving a penalty kick from Marcus Banegas in the 11th minute. Crown took the lead late in the first half, as Isaac Schulz added his second goal of the tournament off assists from Joaquin Silva and Colin Vilme. Spurgeon scored just 51 seconds later, as Rylen Ballard connected with Sage Ballard to tie the match at one goal apiece. Vilme took the lead back for Crown in the second half, scoring off an assist from Timmy Jackson and Pedro Silveira in the 58th minute to put the Polars on top 2-1. Jackson got on the board himself just six minutes later, as a long pass from Travis Verkuilien connected with the forward, and he found the back of the net to swell the lead to 3-1. Just 56 seconds later, Duilio Del Carpio scored off a corner kick from Ashton Hosler and a poke from Juanfer Arriaga to push the Polars ahead 4-1. Ashton Hosler continued to pour it on for Crown, as assists from Schulz and Silva added another goal for the Polars, with the lead growing to 5-1. Rylen Ballard picked up a goal in the waning minutes of the match, maneuvering inside the box and scoring to cut the Crown advantage to 5-2. Sebasatian Bocanegra closed out the match with a beautiful pass to Alan Montano on a corner kick with three minutes left, and the Polars struck again to win the match 6-2.
