HIGHLIGHTS Bob Jones opened the match on the attack, with a shot from Lydia Howell in the 6th minute being corralled by Emely Vargas to keep the match scoreless. The Bruins broke through in the 20th minute, as Myleigh Shaw found Shannon Miller in front of the net, who connected with a strike over the SWAU keeper to give Bob Jones the 1-0 lead. Southwestern Adventist saw their best chance of the first half in the 37th minute off a corner kick, but Deysi Rivera’s shot was controlled by Margaret Cummings and Bob Jones went into the break with a 1-0 advantage. Miller almost added another just 96 seconds into the second half for the Bruins off a pass from Aurednik, but the shot trickled wide and out of play, and the score remained 1-0 in favor of BJU. Shaw looked to get in on the scoring action in the 68th minute, but a brilliant stop by the SWAU defense kept the deficit at one goal. The Knights’ best opportunity came in the 78th minute, as a shot by Rivera almost snuck into the back of the net, but Estrella Cruz kicked the ball out of play, and Bob Jones stayed in front. Aurednick clinched the three-peat for the Bruins in the 87th minute, as Shaw found her on a breakaway, and Bob Jones picked up the 2-0 victory and their third straight NCCAA DII Women’s Soccer National Championship.
